Do I have to blow dry my puppy after she gets wet?

I know blow-drying them is necessary after baths because it prevents skin irration/hot spots, but I was just wondering if it's necessary whenever they get wet. It rains a decent amount where I live, and she likes to sit outside on the porch even when it's pouring. We also discovered that she loves playing with the sprinkler on really hot days and tends to get pretty soaked. We'd usually just towel dry her for a bit and then let her air dry. I was just curious as to whether I should start doing this because I definitely don't want any skin problems to occur. Thanks!

Puppy extremely nervous/anxious

We’ve had a 15 week old female alaskan malamute for about 5 weeks now and we feel she’s really struggling with socialization. Whenever we’re on the front lawn with her and someone walks past the house either with or without a dog, she’ll usually start barking and run away. When we sit on the porch she’s good for the most part and will usually stay silent or just growl a little.

We’ve had a decent amount of friends and family over the house since we’ve gotten her and some people she’s completely fine with but others she won’t stop barking at. She’ll also bark at trash/recycling bins and will usually end up running back up the porch. The one thing I noticed though is she likes to watch what our neighbors are doing when we sit on the porch together. She seems to be at least somewhat curious which is good.

She’s also been pretty bad with car rides, actually pooping on the car seat this past time. She refused to go inside the vet office and started peeing everywhere when I picked her up. Yesterday we started puppy socialization classes at petsmart and she refused to go inside the building. We had to drag her in there. Once she got inside she was pretty good with walking in the aisles but whenever a dog got within sight she started barking.

There’s only one other puppy in the class and the moment he walked in she started incessantly barking and ended up peeing a little. He was a very friendly dog and wanted to say hi to her but she would just start barking if he got even relatively close. As the class went on and we started to work on commands it got slightly better.

I understand puppies being fearful and anxious is pretty normal but even the instructor said she’s definitely “outside the average” and seems to have confidence issues. I’m just curious on what your guys thoughts are. Did you have any similar experiences with your puppy and what were some things you did to help them? Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

How much to be feeding a 15 week old puppy

We’ve had her for a little over a month now and were originally feeding her 1 cup of kibble topped off with wet food 3 times a day. We went to the vet about a week ago for a check up and told them that she still seems very hungry and tries to eat everything she sees outside (leaves, sticks, dirt).

They recommended we increase the amount to a cup and three quarters. We’ve been doing this for a week now and she hasn’t gotten any better. She gets very bitey and chaotic when she’s hungry especially when my family and I are eating food around her. She’ll sometimes lay down next to her food bin and even try to open it up.

We do some crate games and practice commands with treats throughout the day but that doesn’t seem to calm her down. Any advice would be very appreciated!

Different sizes for different washes

A while back, I bought a 28x30 in the Tuff Tony blue day dreamer wash, and it fit very well except that it was way too long. I decided to just get them hemmed instead of having to return them and order another size. I recently decided to purchase a 28x28 in the Evening Jazz wash, and now they're extremely short and a little tighter in the waist. The waist measures around 14 inches for this pair, while the other one is more like 15.5. I really love the quality and fit of the jeans, but I'm really frustrated with the sizing variations between washes right now. Anyone else have the same experience or any advice?

Are these jeans too baggy?

I’ve been trying for a really long time to find wide legged jeans that aren’t too baggy/barrely. They aren’t the exact fit I wanted but I feel like they’re the closest to what I’m gonna get. Be honest do you guys think they’re too baggy or sloppy?

Doubting our vetenarian

Hey everyone,

We recently got an 11-week-old female Alaskan Malamute and just had a vet visit that left us with some doubts. My grandma recommended this vet as she used to take her dog to them around a decade ago. I wanted to get some outside opinions before jumping to conclusions.

A couple of things are going on:

  • She hasn’t been eating very well. We were recommended by our breeder to use a cup of Native P Chicken and Rice Formula and mix it with Retriver Puppy Wet Food three times a day. We cut back to about a 1/2 a cup, and she is still very inconsistent. One meal she may eat everything, and another meal she may only have a couple of pieces. Our vet suggested switching her to something like Purina Pro Plan or Hill’s Science Diet, which I agree with. But when I asked the vet whether we should still mix in wet food after transitioning, I didn’t really get a clear answer. I thought as long as dogs were eating a good quality kibble, they didn't need anything else.
  • When I also mentioned how she really wasn't eating our treats as well, she said that Malamutes aren’t food-motivated dogs, which surprised me because I’ve always heard the opposite (or at least that they can be very food driven depending on the dog).
  • Our breeder was really pushing NuVet Plus, which I later found out is basically an MLM product and doesn't really do any good. We stopped giving it to her (even though she never ate it anyway). The vet didn’t seem concerned about it at all and actually suggested we keep trying to give it to her.
  • The vet recommended bathing her very often, which also threw me off since I thought frequent bathing could mess with a Malamute’s coat/skin.

Nothing she said was alarmingly bad, but a lot of it just didn’t sit right with me and left me feeling a little down after leaving. Am I overthinking this, or should I consider switching vets? Also, sorry about the number of posts I've been making in this sub the past week. I'm just really new to this and want her to be okay.

Is this something that needs to be corrected?

I love to see her excited and play more as she was very aloof the first couple days. But, I’m very confused on what this nibbling thing is she does with me. She isn’t really biting me, more so just rubbing the front of her teeth against me. Although very cute, I don’t want to encourage bad behavior because while it may not hurt or be a problem now, it could down the line. Am I making this a bigger deal than I should be? Any advice would be appreciated!

How much water should I give my 10 week old puppy?

For reference, she's a 12lbs female malamute. This is her 3rd night here, and she's been getting a little more comfortable each day. We feed her at 6 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm. She has access to water all day, but drinks an excessive amount. It's not like she's outside running around for the entirety of the day. She'll play for a little bit but for the most part she's napping. I fill her bowl about 1/4 of the way each time, and whenever she finishes, she sits down and looks back up at me, asking for more. I'll fill it back up and this process repeats for a while. Eventually I'll walk away and she'll sit there for a couple minutes before leaving as well.

I started to measure how much I've been giving her and so far today it's been 24oz (3 cups) which I looked up and said was definetly too much. She also threw up after drinking this evening but seemed to be fine after. She has a vet appointment Friday which I'll definetly bring this up to them. I don't want to restrict her acess to water but also don't want to make her sick. Do you guys have any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

Crate training 10 week old puppy who's not food or treat motivated.

We've had a 10-week-old female malamute for about 3 days now, and by far the hardest part is crate training. She doesn't seem interested in any doys (Kong, plush, chew toys). She literally just lies on the shoe mat all day, besides when she has to eat/drink or go outside. We've also attempted to give her a treat when she potties, or when we get her in her crate, but she just licks it for a moment and then just walks away. I think she's only eaten it once so far.

Nighttime is very rough for us. We kind of just carry her into the crate and put a blanket on top of it so it's covering 3 sides. I'm sleeping on the living room couch for right now, which is around 5 feet away from her crate. She'll usually whine and tug at the crate for about half an hour before quieting down and eventually falling asleep.

Should we continue trying to crate train her throughout the day or just give her a little bit to adjust? Each day, she seems slightly more comfortable, but it's still a work in progress. Any advice/feedback is very appreciated!

Questions about 10 week old puppy

We just brought home a 10-week-old female malamute about 2 days ago, and we’ve been having some difficulties adjusting. This is our first puppy, so we’re not sure what’s normal behavior vs. something we should be concerned about.

A few things we’ve noticed:

  • We have to carry her around everywhere (to the crate, outside for potty, even to her food bowl). I'll put her food/water bowl a couple of feet in front of her, but she won't come to it. It's not that she's not hungry because she does a very good job of eating her food and drinking for the most part.
  • She doesn’t seem interested in toys at all (chew toys, plushies, Kongs with treats). She might paw at them for a second, but then she'll end up ignoring them.
  • We try to reward/praise her when she potties outside or when we get her in the crate, but she isn't eating our treats. We have milk bones and baby blue training treats, which she only licks for a second or two.
  • Inside, she mostly lies down quietly on our shoe mat (in front of a vent) or windows. The only time she'll walk around and sniff stuff is when we bring her to her food or after she comes inside.
  • She absolutely loves the shade when we go outside, but tends to chill under shrubs/bushes, which my mom doesn't like due to the risk of pests/bugs. She obviously doesn't listen, so is it okay if I just pick her up and move her away from them?
  • Also, should she have access to water all day? My mom thinks she shouldn't, but I thought she should due to her not peeing much when taken out.

We completely understand it’s only been 2 days, and she’s in a brand new environment, so we’re being very patient. We just want to make sure we’re doing the right things and not missing anything important. Any advice and feedback is very much appreciated!

Difficulty with 10 week female malamute

We've had this girl for two days now already, and have been having some difficulties. We have to carry her everywhere we want her to go. Whether this is in her crate, to go potty outside, or to her food bowl. We bring her outside to use the bathroom about every 1.5-2 hours. Most of the time, she doesn't go and just sniffs/licks the grass.

She also doesn't seem to play with her toys at all. We've tried chew toys, plushies, and Kong toys with treats inside. She just paws at it for a moment and then leaves it alone. We try to reward her with treats whenever we put her inside her crate or when she uses the bathroom outside, but for the most part, she just licks it for a bit and then ignores it.

Whenever she's inside, she just lies on the shoe mat next to the front door or lies on the floor in front of the window. We don't exactly love that because it's behind our couch, and there are cords that she could potentially chew on. We do heavily monitor her when she's behind it. I slept on the couch with the crate beside me, and she was panting most of the night. She didn't cry, though. In the morning, after I gave her breakfast and took her outside, we put her back in the crate for a little bit, but she started crying.

I understand that it's a very long process, and it's going to be a while until she completely adjusts and gets comfortable around us. This is our first puppy, and we just want her to be okay and loved. We start puppy classes next week, so hopefully that might help. Any reassurance or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Need help with bathing

We just rescued a 10 week old female malamute. Her previous living conditions weren’t great so she smells pretty bad and has a lot of dirt. The shampoo/conditioner we ordered isn’t gonna be here for another week. The lady said we could use dawn dish soap as an alternative. Also is it ok to use a blow dryer to dry them or should we towel dry instead? Any other tips/advice would be appreciated!

Questions about brushing

I've never owned a malamute before and had a couple of questions as we're going to be picking her up next week. We ordered a slicker brush and an undercoat rake from Amazon, but we're a little confused about them.

  • How often should I be brushing (daily, a few times a week, etc)
  • When do I use the slicker vs the undercoat rake?
  • How do I know if I'm brushing properly and what are the correct techniques?
  • Are there any other products I should buy? I heard people mention a greyhound comb, but I'm not exactly sure what it does or if it's necessary.

Just for reference, she's 9 weeks old, a female, and has a standard coat. Any advice/feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Feedback/advice on hair style

I’ve had really short hair for most of my life (5th pic) and decided to grow it out about 7 months ago. I didn’t really have any inspiration or a specific hairstyle in mind, but I eventually started to gravitate towards a messy kind of look (last two pics).

I’ve finally gotten it to a length that I’m comfortable with but I’m not sure if it looks good or not. My hair is straight but pretty thick so I have to use a clay to help style it and give it texture. Does it look good how it is or should I continue to grow it out longer or even shorter? Honest feedback and advice is very appreciated!
