This update brings a big batch of fixes and improvements, especially for YouTube downloads.

What’s new:

• Fewer “failed to download” errors on YouTube when you’re not logged in
• 4K/8K, 360° formats, audio tracks, and subtitles are back in 4K Video Downloader+ and Android
• Fewer YouTube requests when parsing channels and playlists, reducing the chance of temporary blocks
• Better handling of upcoming/unprocessed live streams and inaccessible private videos
• TikTok downloads no longer fail, crash the app, or download without sound
• Smart Mode now properly respects the selected codec
• Frequently used subtitle languages now appear at the top of the Smart Mode list
• Better handling of files with non-Latin names
• Higher-quality channel thumbnails that stay after restarting the app
• Several UI, stability, Ubuntu, and macOS fixes

For subscriptions in 4K Video Downloader+, checks are now up to 5× more frequent, and queued subscriptions show their video count.

The update also fixes the Ubuntu 26.04 launch issue, restores sound in the built-in browser on Ubuntu, and brings back the drag-to-Applications arrow in the macOS installer.

Good news: we’ve implemented a fix for the recent YouTube changes that affected 4K Download apps.

A quick heads-up: 26.3.1 hasn’t been rolled out through the regular update channel yet, so you won’t see an in-app update prompt or release notes for this build just yet.

If you need the fix now, you can install 26.3.1 manually from the website. Otherwise, you can wait for the public rollout, and the app will notify you automatically once it’s available.

YouTube has recently introduced additional platform changes that are affecting the functionality of our apps.

Our development team is already investigating the issue and working on a fix. Once we have a solution, it will go through testing to make sure the apps remain stable before we release the update.

There’s no patch available just yet, but we’re actively working on it. As soon as the new version is ready, you’ll receive an update notification directly in the 4K Download app.

Update or install 4K Image Compressor and give the new version a try

Have you ever downloaded a YouTube video only to discover that it plays with an auto-dubbed track instead of the creator’s original voice?

This happens because “default” and “original” audio aren’t always the same thing.

• Original is the primary audio uploaded by the creator.
• Default is the track YouTube automatically plays for you. Depending on your region and settings, it may be a dub.

To download the correct track with 4K Video Downloader Plus:

1. Turn off Smart Mode.
2. Copy the YouTube video URL and click Paste Link.
3. Wait for the download settings to appear.
4. Expand the Audio Tracks list.
5. Select the track labeled “original.”
6. Choose your preferred format and quality, then download the video.

If you download multiple audio tracks, your media player might still select a dub automatically. In VLC, open Audio → Audio Track and choose the language that was marked as original in the downloader.

That’s it—the video should switch tracks immediately, with no restart required.

One small setting can save you from watching an entire video with the wrong voice.

Here are some of the highlights:

➡️ AI-processed files are now organized automatically. Instead of appearing in the main download list, processed files stay attached to their original download, making everything much easier to manage.

➡️ Smarter subscriptions in 4K Video Downloader+. Subscription updates are now scheduled more intelligently to reduce YouTube rate-limit issues like “Try again later” or “Confirm you’re not a bot.” You can also see each subscription’s status and update it manually whenever you want.

➡️ Better stability and reliability. We fixed crashes related to subscriptions, improved parsing for channels and playlists, and resolved a number of edge cases that could interrupt downloads.

➡️ Cleaner interface. Improved notifications, clearer error messages, refreshed settings, keyboard shortcuts in menus, and numerous usability improvements across the apps.

⚠️ Temporary notice: the Search audio tags option is currently disabled while we work on improving its stability.

🔗Since these changes are being rolled out gradually, some users may experience the issue while others won’t. We’re actively investigating and working on a solution.

• If you’re signed into YouTube in 4K Video Downloader+, try signing out.
• If you’re not signed in, try signing in.

We’ve been seeing more questions lately about installation issues on Mac, so here’s a quick tip that solves one of the most common causes. 👇

If 4K Download apps won’t install or launch properly on your Mac, there’s a good chance you’re using the wrong installer version. Mac computers come with two different chip architectures: Intel and Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4). Downloading the wrong version can cause installation problems.

Here’s how to check:

1️⃣ Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner and select About This Mac

2️⃣ Check which chip your Mac uses

3️⃣ Go to the downloads page

4️⃣ Click the small arrow next to the download button

5️⃣ Select the installer that matches your Mac: Intel Mac → Intel installer, Apple Silicon Mac → M-series installer

That’s it. In many cases, switching to the correct installer resolves the issue immediately. If you’re still having trouble after that, contact our support team, and we’ll be happy to help.

⚡️ Over the past week, we’ve received quite a few support requests about audio quality when downloading from YouTube, so we wanted to answer it here for everyone.

“Why can’t I get 256 kbps audio?”
“Why is my downloaded audio quality lower than expected?”
“Why doesn’t 4K Video Downloader Plus download better audio?”

➡️ Short answer: our apps download exactly what YouTube provides.

4K Video Downloader Plus and 4K YouTube to MP3 don’t convert, enhance, or upscale audio quality. They download the original audio streams available from YouTube or YouTube Music.

➡️ Current YouTube limits:

— Regular YouTube videos → usually up to 128 kbps AAC
— YouTube Music Free → up to 128 kbps AAC
— YouTube Music Premium → up to 256 kbps AAC

👉 Important detail:

Even if you have YouTube Premium, standard YouTube videos still won’t provide 256 kbps audio. 256 kbps is currently available only through YouTube Music Premium.

👉 If you want the highest quality possible:

1. Have an active YouTube Music Premium subscription
2. Log into your Premium account directly inside 4K Video Downloader Plus or 4K YouTube to MP3
3. Download from YouTube Music

If you’re downloading regular YouTube videos, the app can only download the quality YouTube itself provides.
