How do you motivate your wheatons?

Hi!

For the wheaton owners who live in the city, and have picky eaters -

How do you motivate them to pay attention to you? For example, when crossing the roads with other dogs on the street (and for them to not react), or to have great recall?

I can have whatever snack in the world, but he won't take the snack as a reward, he'll just spit it out.

I'm looking to improve his ability to ignore other dogs on the street and thinking of new ways to interest him, or ultimately reward him for good behavior/ignoring other dogs/etc.

What do you feed your Wheatens?

Hello all,

We're currently in a little bit of a discussion over what to feed our wheaten, Arlo. He's now 1.5 years old, relatively small boy (12kg), no allergies. Lives a pretty active lifestyle, living in the city, lots of walking, off-leash dog park running, etc.

Since he was 5 months, he's the PICKIEST eater. He thinks anything you give him is poison and only recently discovered that mayonaise is delicious, after I forcefully put some on his nose :)

Up until 1yr old, we were trying different kibbles and ended up sticking to Orijen. Only eats it when totally starved. Then, we started mixing it with some wet food, that worked for a bit and then again only started eating when super starved. Now, we slowly transitioned onto raw food, and mix it with the kibble. But I've just discovered that that is actually not good to do as it takes different amounts of time to digest.

Transitioning between foods for us also takes a looong time (cause of his sensitive tummy), so I can't do lots of trial & error.

Anyway, what are you feeding your wheatens? Are they picky eaters? Should i fully transition on BARF (and add some beans/peas next to it?)
