westword.comAiring 2 seasons from April 1984 to March 1985 Double Trouble was an NBC sitcom that focused on teenage twins (and Jan Hooks impersonators) Allison & Kate played by real life twins (and Peg Bundy sibling) Jean & Liz Sagal. Allison wore a ponytail so she was obviously uptight while Kate’s long hair clearly signaled she was down to party. Both seasons were mid-season replacements & both seasons couldn’t have been more different from each other. S1 was a traditional family sitcom with the twins living in Iowa with their overprotective widowed father (Donnelly Rhodes), doing high school shit and witnessing their fathers totally fine & appropriate macking on their dead moms best friend (Patricia Richardson looking even more middle-aged than usual despite being barely 30). When that premise didn’t work the writers moved the twins to NYC, put them into fashion & dance school (respectively) and had them move in with their sassy but wise Aunt Margo (Barbara Barrie). S2 also featured prolific chameleon Anne-Marie Johnson & Mindy Cohn doing her best Blair Warner impression as a two-faced manipulative rich bitch. S2 ended in a truly wild cliffhanger with dad visiting his daughters in the Big Apple where the twins lament how much they miss living in the cosmopolitan metropolis of Des Moines. Sadly the show quickly vanished from the schedule robbing viewers of a full-circle third season.
Edit - Thanks to u/hagelblass for posting a link to DT’s final episode. Apparently the series ended with the Foster sisters forsaking midwestern life in Des Moines to continue livin’ it up in NYC. My bad. I’ll keep my musings up for the half dozen or so hopeful fanfic writers still pining for a mythical third season.
