The bittersweet feeling of finishing a standalone fantasy book

The bittersweet feeling of finishing a standalone fantasy book

On one hand, I’m really happy that everything is done and concluded with just one book (as an adult, I seem to have less and less time for reading so I really do appreciate standalone fantasy books).

But on the other hand, my mind can’t stop thinking about the other possibilities and other stories that would have happened if only it were a series. In short, nakakabitin. Post-book depression is easier to feel too.

The book itself was really good though! As a kid who grew up watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood on TV5, this really seemed like an AU fanfic of Roy and Riza to me. I really really liked the novel’s world building and I really feel like there’s a lot more to discover in this novel’s world. Yumi And The Nightmare Painter also left me feeling this way (that book is on a whole other level IMO. 5/5)

What other standalone fantasy books left you feeling this way?

So lucky to have found my top 2 & 3 books for 2026 (so far)

I had trouble searching for physical copies of the books before, so when I saw these BOTM versions on shopee, I checked them out immediately!

They both tie for the 2nd spot in my rankings this year!

Happily Never After gave me butterflies in my stomach multiple times (and the spice!!!) and I really liked how cool the FMC was.

On the other hand, An Academic Affair felt more like silent yearning and doing things for love even if you don’t know its love. I really like how well-written the characters are here! Plus the academia setting was really interesting.

How to ask for the GF’s parents’ blessing before proposal?

Need ba may dalang offering? Tatanungin ba dapat kung pwede na? Or sasabihin lang talaga na may balak nako mag propose?

May Book Haul

I’ve been enjoying B.K. Borison’s books a lot lately! Super cozy ng mga books niya and lighthearted din. Currently reading Good Spirits, although ang saya sana kung Christmas time ko to nabasa but oh well.

Got Approved for the Pikachu Card!

The whole process took about 2-ish months (signed up last March). I’m excited to use it for travels moving forward, and as someone who goes online shopping a lot, the security features seem really helpful.

On a side note though, parang ang daming imperfections agad nung physical card haha. It doesn’t bother me pero ang weird lang na parang may kumalat na ink o kaya dumi na built-in na mismo sa card.
