Episode 15 Dub Error

I've been rewatching Golden Kamuy as a refresher before starting the Final Season and I've also been reading the manga to view the content that wasn't adapted. When I reached Episode 15, a line stuck out to me that didn't make any sense.

(Dub Lines)

Warden Inudo (speaking to Nagakura): "From what I understood, you two parted ways back before the Hakodate War, right? I'm under no obligation to give prisoner information to unrelated persons. You lost your brother in the Hokodate War when he fought on the New Government's side."

Nagakura (Speaking to Inudo): "You may hate him for that, but why hide him from the Goverment? Why keep him hidden instead of executing him?"

This made no sense. Nagakura lost his brother? What brother? Okay, maybe he's referring to Hijikata since they were close like brothers. But when he fought for the New Government? The Shinsengumi fought against the New Government, not for. Did Hijikata switch sides in the Golden Kamuy continuity? Why would he do that? Am I misunderstanding my Japanese history? I spent like half an hour scrolling through wiki pages reviewing the Shinsengumi, the Tokugawa Shogunate, Hijikata Toshizo, Shinpachi Nagakura, and the Battle of Hakodate trying to understand what this line was saying and came up with nothing. So I gave up and just accepted that maybe they'll explain it later. That was until I reached the same part in the manga and realized the line "You lost your brother..." was supposed to belong to Nagakura, not Inudo. This makes a lot more sense, explaining Inudo's grudge towards Hijikata rather than just being petty for no real reason. A really unfortunate erroneous dub read.
