The France-Paraguay penalty showed why clear VAR screens matter.
The France-Paraguay penalty is probably going to be argued about for a while.
Live, it didn’t look super obvious. The ref let play go, Paraguay thought it was normal contact, and then VAR brought it back.
After the replay, at least everyone could see what the referee was judging: contact in the box, second look on the monitor, penalty given.
You still don’t have to agree with it. France fans will say it was enough. Paraguay fans will say it was soft. Both reactions make sense.
But this is where the screen matters. VAR doesn’t remove controversy, but a clear replay makes the argument less messy.
With Hisense supporting the VAR display technology this tournament, these moments have been easier to follow on screen. Not perfect, not controversy-free, but clearer.
