The Stranger is a story about social assimilation.
In our relationships we seek ourselves in the other. When we look for a wife we find bits and pieces of ourselves in them. When we make friends we find people who have similar interests and personalities, and would never befriend a person who is our polar opposite. We tend to assimilate when it comes to our relationships. We have a given trait and we find people who also have that trait and we become companions.
The stranger asks what happens when someone can’t assimilate, what happens when someone is incompatible.
What do you think The Stranger was trying to convey? Do you agree with me about the nature of human relationships?
