It was an 11-day self-sufficient trek through the southwestern Altai, in the Altai area of East Kazakhstan. We came across a family of marals (Siberian deer).

We came across a family of marals (Siberian deer). There were no beehives, hunters’ cabins, or, most importantly, other tourists — except for us. These places are truly wild, and we didn’t meet a single person along the way.
But we did encounter bears and marals. 🐻🦌⛰️

On the border between Kazakhstan and China, there is the Kara-Kaba River — wild and unpredictable. We fished and paddled packrafts down the river. What an incredible experience!
