Couple of radium clocks I just got.
I LOVE the GMC-800 Geiger counter. All I want to know if it’s “hot” or a dud, so it’s perfect.
My background here is 0.01-0.2 mR/h.

The one in the left not much higher than background (0.02 mR/h). I these two in one shipment. The hot one on the left made up for it.
I collect radium clocks, mostly Westclox and GE. While Google Lens has been extremely useful to determine if clocks have radium, the Style 8 was made during the transition years when they went away from radium paint, between 1975 and 1978. The Style 8s were made between 1964 and 1981.
I’ve encountered many with the numbers showing the classic darkening but the hands are a much lighter color, almost new looking.
Any tricks of the trade to sort radium from non on this model? Is having all metal knobs on the back a very strong indicator of radium paint?
I’ll soon have a Geiger counter, and I’ll be able to catalog the boxes of clocks that I have to help others in their search.
I’m scientist (geek) and have always been fascinated with radium, especially wrt Marie Curie.
I’m so glad I found this subreddit!
