New Riff Headliner 2026
These are usually awesome and sell out quickly but the drop is online tomorrow at 11a. It’s distillery pickup only so it’ll work for anyone in the Cincy/Ky area or is traveling there. It’s a definite yes for me so I just wanted to share.
Every once in awhile I venture out of my normal wheelhouse and try something that I don’t already have on my shelves. Calvert Woodley surprised me when I found out they had 10-year single barrel rye coming in from Whistle Pig. I mainly grabbed it last week because I’ve generally have had good luck with their store picks over the years, and this went as expected.
Right away I got a nice mix of caramel, vanilla, and baking spices with a little mint that I expect in rye. My palate is nowhere near as sophisticated as many of you in the group but I def picked up rye spice immediately, but it stayed balanced with brown sugar, toasted oak, and just enough sweetness to keep it approachable. The finish was just as interesting with pepper, oak, and a hint of cinnamon coming thru for me.
Really good double oak. I typically lean toward Woodford D.O. as well as the Old Forester 1910 but this one is no slouch…
11 year Beam will always be a W for me. Great stuff
I know the release price in April gave some pause including myself. For me, I don’t think I’ve seen an 11 year RC pick at this price….
