Ghanaian scholarships (undergraduate)

I’m writing this as the senior brother of a student who has been struggling with this situation for years.
Why is it that people always say there are active scholarships available, yet my younger brother has been applying since Level 100 and still hasn’t received any? He has very good WASSCE results, a good GPA, and meets the stated requirements, but he still doesn’t understand what he is doing wrong.
At this point, we genuinely want to know: do you have to know someone before you can be selected?
He has seen students in his department receive significant scholarship support even though, academically, he performs better than some of them. What makes it even more frustrating is seeing some beneficiaries who appear financially comfortable receiving scholarship money while students who genuinely struggle to pay their fees continue to suffer.
My brother is now in Level 400, and I honestly cannot count the number of times he has been sent out of the examination hall because of outstanding school fees. As his older brother, it is painful to watch someone who is genuinely struggling financially keep missing opportunities for support while others who may not face the same financial difficulties receive scholarships.
Scholarships are supposed to support students who need them. So I’m genuinely asking: what exactly determines who gets selected, and how can students who genuinely need the support have a fair chance?
I’m not trying to take anything away from anyone who has received a scholarship. I just want to understand how the system works and why students like my brother, who genuinely need the support, keep getting overlooked.

I Took Your Advice and Updated My CV – Still Looking for an Opportunity

A little while ago, I shared my situation here and received a lot of feedback about my CV. I took that advice seriously and have completely updated it, so I'm hoping to ask for your help again.

I'm an Economics graduate from Ghana. I had the opportunity to study abroad after receiving university admissions, but I couldn't go because I simply couldn't afford it. Watching that opportunity slip away was heartbreaking.

I come from a rural area where decent job opportunities are limited. I've done whatever honest work I could to survive, but it's been a difficult journey. As the firstborn, the responsibility of supporting my family while trying to build my own future is overwhelming.

I've kept applying for jobs and refusing to give up, but I'm exhausted. I'm attaching my updated CV in the hope that someone might know of an opportunity, offer a referral, or point me in the right direction.

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback before. If you have any advice or know of any opportunities, I'd truly appreciate your help. Even sharing this post could make a difference.

I Just Need One Opportunity to Change My Life

I never thought I'd have to make another post like this, but here I am.

I'm an Economics graduate from Ghana. I had the opportunity to study abroad after receiving university admissions, but I couldn't go because I simply couldn't afford it. Watching those dreams slip away has been heartbreaking.

I come from a rural area where decent job opportunities are hard to find. I've done whatever honest work I could just to survive, but life has been incredibly difficult. As the firstborn, the pressure to support my family while struggling myself is overwhelming.

I've applied for jobs, kept trying, and refused to give up, but I'm mentally and physically exhausted. I'm posting again with my CV attached, hoping someone might know of an opportunity, a referral, or be able to point me in the right direction.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Even sharing this post could make a difference.

I’m loosing interest in everything.

I honestly feel like I’m losing interest in life. I completed my undergraduate degree in Economics and had dreams of studying abroad. I was fortunate enough to receive admissions from universities, but I couldn’t go because I simply didn’t have the money. Watching those opportunities slip away has been heartbreaking.

I come from a rural area, and it’s been incredibly difficult to find a decent job. I even worked digging abula just to survive, but I ended up with skin rashes and other health problems because of the work.

I’m the firstborn in my family, so the pressure is overwhelming. I feel like I’m expected to have all the answers, but I don’t even know what to do anymore.

I’m mentally and physically exhausted. I feel stuck, and I don’t know how to move forward. If anyone has been through something similar or is in a position to help in any way…whether with advice, opportunities, or guidance.I would truly appreciate it. I’m just tired of life and hoping things can somehow get better.

Seeking Guidance on a Crucial Next Step.

Hi everyone, I’m from Bechem in Ghana, and I completed my undergraduate studies in 2023. Since then, I’ve been trying hard to find my path, taking on small jobs while staying dedicated to my studies. I was just offered a place in a Master’s and PhD program in Germany, but after a visa rejection for a U.S. opportunity, this is my last hope. I’m reaching out for any guidance…anyone with advice, opportunities, or resources that could help me take this step. I’m deeply grateful for any support or advice. Thank you.
