Obviously Mother is some kind of monster thing that could run on that logic

But more importantly, Mother has a bunch of children, who can only start to reclaim their identity by reclaiming the names. This is basically how very young children actually form their early identity.

Children don't call their mothers by their actual names but by mummy or something similar. When does that start to change? When children are becoming independent and leave their mothers house.

Thematically it makes total sense that learning Mother's real name severely limits her power over you, just as learning your own name is the beginning of having enough personal agency to even try to fight back.

As in, anywhere between it forming and the start of the warp 5 program?

Does anyone know why that hasn't happened? Its 2 weeks since the last chapter so I was expecting it yesterday.

They are on day 2 at the minute at dinner time. If there is an exit in the basement Catie might only arrive in time to watch herself / themselves die in the real world at the rate of progress they are making.

They are going to have to find their way to Mother's room based on whatever EE remembers about the upstairs and find their way around nightmares and hazardous are around. Which with the other 2 needing torches to even see will be very slow since they can't really use them without exposing themselves. And the house is huge, we still haven't even seen the full ground floor and that tour took an entire morning.

Then they have to deal with whatever is in Mothers room and Od Dog doesn't remember how he got past it. So thats going to take time and thinking and might end up scattering them. It will take all night to get that far and probably into the morning to actually get back to the stairs.

Then they going to have to find a way to get at the basement door without being found out by Mother or those meddling kids, which is going to be impossible in day hours, so they will probably be forced to wait until the night of day 3 unless they think to try the basement door in the Library (there seems to be one on the map from the tour chapter).

Then all they have to do is find their way through the basement with no idea where they are going hoping to stumble into the exit with no idea what is waiting for them. And that isn't going to be fast.

That puts them somewhere in day 4 to find the exit, right around the time Catie in the real world will be expiring of thirst. And thats without being delayed more by whatever unexpected problems turn up.
