This test question is driving me crazy

I need to choose the best option to complete the sentence:

Stephen Hawking was a great scientist. Still he ??? the Nobel Prize yet.

Options:

1- didn't win

2 - hasn't won

3 - hadn't won

The word "yet" is killing me. Hawking died in 2018, so he can't win the Nobel Prize, right? And they acknowledge that he died because he WAS a great scientist.

If not for "yet," I would use "didn't win," but we have "yet," so should I use "hasn't won" despite the fact that he is already dead???

Is there any difference in meaning between these two sentences?

I study sentence word order, and the topic is SVOMPT.

The task is to arrange words in the right order:

your article / I / quickly / last night / in bed / read

Intuitively, I arranged it like this: I quickly read your article in bed last night.

But the textbook wants me to have: I read your article quickly in bed last night.

Is my sentence wrong? Is it proper English?

Can you recommend me an app to learn vocabulary (NOT Anki)

I can't believe there's no simple app to learn Japanese words with interval repetition where you can:

1 - create your own word lists

2 - study words by typing them (no given answers)

But most importantly, in this app, you can take the test to learn new words like this:

  1. You're presented with a word from your vocab list written in kanji.

  2. You type the reading.

  3. You're presented with the next word.

  4. You type the reading.

  5. You're presented with the first word again.

  6. You type the translation.

And so on...

Like, why I can't find any app like this?? The closest thing to what I'm looking for is Wanikani... It's ideal for me except for the fact that I can't add my own vocabulary lists (as far as I know).

If you know the app I'm looking for, please let me know 🙏

Please, DON'T recommend me Anki. I just can't use it. I hate everything about the damn thing. I'd rather learn to code and create my own simple app than fry my brain trying to understand how to use Anki.

Edit: people don't understand that what I want is to make my life easier with an app like I described. Anki WILL NOT make my life easier. I tried it, I didn't like it, you won't be able to change my opinion about it. Please stop. I'm glad you find Anki simple and useful. Continue using it and just ignore my post.

Any interesting research ideas

Hi everyone!

I'm considering getting masters degree in English language and literature in my country. But the thing is, I'm not sure what my research paper should be about.

Could you help me brainstorm some ideas? What would you write about?

I've been thinking that I want to research something modern. For example, I noticed that people on the Internet (including myself) became better at identifying AI in English texts. "What language keys allow us to identify LLM involved?" Does this research sound somewhat promising? I need to write at least 3 articles on the same topic, so... Is it worth it?

I'm also interested in the language of advertising and propaganda, but I feel like tons of research papers were done on that...

What would you do?

What cat coat color names are the most common?

Is this chart accurate? Would you specify gray tabby/ red tabby or just call this type of coat "tabby"?

Also, is it okay to call Red Tabby just Orange?

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Is THERE a dummy subject here?

Our non-native English teacher told us that "THERE" is a dummy subject in the sentence, "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."

I have trust issues with this teacher, so I want to double-check. I thought this was just an inversion, and "THERE" was an adverbial modifier of place... Was I wrong?
