Nameless Isle / Ascension - can we ascend Lohse and stay together as a team?

Hello all,

I tried to google this but did not find anything.

My party is Lohse, Ifan, Fane and my OC. We are having the discussion in front of the Lunar Temple / Academy for who is to ascend. My preferred option would be to ascend Lohse and stay together as a 4-person-team to support her. But the dialogue options won't let me?
If I talk to Lohse, I can tell her to ascend and promise her my support. Then immediately my party shrinks to just her and me. When I talk to Ifan or Fane next, the dialogue gives me the only options of letting them ascend (which I promised to Lohse half a minute ago) or persuading them to support me as the Ascendent (which I don't want, because reasons.) I don't have the option to persuade them to support Lohse. Or do I?

So, if I let Lohse ascend, we are a 2-person-team from now on and I have to say goodbye to Fane and Ifan? (They have all my stuff! I am just a flimsy Elf who can't carry more than their bedroll and someone's leg for a snack!)

I know I could just go with the flow and find out, but I don't want to lose the other companions.

I did load a safe and tried different options, and I can persuade all of them to follow me as Ascendant. But, see above, this is not what I want.

Is this my choice between a 2-person-team and taking the job as Ascendant?

Thank you for your input!

Hello everyone,
first time player here, easiest mode, about 120 hours in (with 1000 hours of BG3 in my belt) and I think I have done most of the content in the area around driftwood (including the Blackpits, woods, meadows, Paladine stuff, graveyard stuff). Next stop would be the Bloodmoon island. My party is level 15, and I have 3 source points. I have my OC as a DIY gloomstalker assassin (melee type), Lohse as ranged combat expert and summoner, Fane as necromancer and Ifan as a tank with heavy armour and shield. All of them are leveled appropriately (strength, warfare, finesse / scoundrel, finesse / huntsman, intelligence)
In the beginning, I was constantly respeccing, using what ressources and skillbooks I could get. This has slowed down a little and I am able to expand their abilities as they are. Nonetheless I constantly ask myself if I do something wrong. I struggle a lot and stack res scrolls for a reason.
My problems are, I think:
- Ifan is efficient in the thick of the fight, surrounded by enemies, because practically all his spells are AOE. Unfortunately, until now, the most fights were spread over a wide area, with NPCs trying to get the most distance to each other. Ifan can Phoenix dive, but just so often. I have the impression that I spend time / action points on repositioning instead of doing damage, which results in fights lasting forever and being frustrating. (Two of my teammates can teleport, plus the gloves, but same problem.) Ifan has just 4 action points and I have not found a way to give him more, which adds to the problem. Of course I have tried to get him spellbooks for single attacks, but there are none. He has a decent weapon (something like 50 to 70 damage plus some elemental damage) but that is not very impressive, compared to spell damage, especially when he is forced to move and every single step costs 1 Point.
- I had a problem to give Lohse real impact. The "special effects" arrows (frost, fire ...) seem to be way less impressive than I was used from BG3. The summoning ability helps, but I am far from breezing through the content.
- My assassin and Fane work fine, they are mobile and versatile. But there have been so many fights which I won just barely, and it was a mess and frustrating.
To be honest, I have no interest in minmaxing or doing complicated builds which I have to maintain in the future. I am here for the story. For roleplay reasons I would like to keep the characters in their roles as they are, but I ask myself (meaning, I ask you), if I do something wrong that makes the experience needlessly difficult.
Thoughts, tipps, hopes and prayers?
Thank you all very much!

Edit, because forgotten:
One of my biggest struggle is deciding which piece of armour goes where. Do I take the Initiative bonus or the HP bonus? Crit chance or dodge chance? This is so irritating.
And - I try to look for resistances in enemies. But does -50 % resistance mean, they are extra vulnerable (because of the minus?)? (because, 50% resistance means, they are somewhat resistant?) I am lost 😄
