My bedroom has no opening window and no extractor fan. Landlord says it needs a “wider review.” Is that actually their responsibility?

Hi all, hoping for a bit of clarity.

My bedroom window doesn’t open at all, it’s fixed shut. There’s no extractor fan either. Mould has been building up across the top of the window frame from condensation, since there’s nowhere for the moisture to go.

I sent photos to the landlord/agent. They’ve confirmed it’s not from a previous leak and not from shower use (it’s the bedroom, no shower in there). But they’re saying it’s not a standard repair and needs a “wider review” of the building’s ventilation, no timeframe given.

A member of their maintenance team actually flagged about a year ago that there should be a ventilation point in this room, but nothing was ever fitted. The mould keeps coming back even after cleaning, and the ceiling corners have also developed staining that’s just been painted over before.

I don’t think it’s a wider building issue though, I believe other flats have an extractor fitted in rooms without an opening window, mine just seems to be missing one… it feels like mine was missed and now they’re stalling.

Is the landlord right to treat this as a long design review, or should they be fixing it within a reasonable timeframe given it’s a known, recurring mould issue?

Anyone been through something similar?
