To those who have a language degree

I always wondered what the students do after graduating with a arts bachelor's degree in languages...

Further studies?

Or working in the relevant field or in a completely different field that has nothing to do with the language you learned?

What language did you do?

Do you regret it?

Was the language itself enough or did you combine with something? If so like what?

What do you think about learning a language during this era of AI?

For context I'm talking about a degree without going to debt, completely free of charge in case of my country.

Sorry for my not so good English

I appreciate opinions from my home country as well as around the world so I'll be reposting to different communities.

Thank you for reading up to here.

What are the opportunities for someone who's really good at and love languages, here in Sri Lanka or possibly abroad?

Hello, I'm a student who's currently doing A levels.

I'm doing some languages along with my other subjects.

Some says that your real talent is something that you can do effortlessly, while others find it difficult.

In my case it's languages...and I really love them too.

(It's sad that almost no one here knows that there's an Olympiad for languages as well)

I can speak 3 languages fluently (English, Sinhala, Japanese) and understand 2 more (Korean,Tamil) at a very decent level. It's really easy for me to grasp a language, remember the vocabulary logically, understand the reasoning behind the a grammar structure and pick up the nuances well.

I'm praised by everyone around me, have surprised natives and people told me that my talent in languages is exceptional.

My dream was to become a language professor/ lecturer at a university to teach students, after pursuing further education.

Also to publish books about learning a language.

I'm primarily interested in second language acquisition as a research topic.

But heard that the pay for a lecturer is bad here, is it true? And is it possible to teach languages at private universities or universities abroad as a Sri Lankan?

I just want live a comfortable life here while being able to afford to travel at least once a year abroad to get books. And most importantly, I don't want to depend on my future partner, I want to be independent. Going abroad to live is a huge plus if possible.

I'm mainly interested in teaching/education side, but wanted to know other possibilities for achieving my desired life style with my language talent.

Or am I better off with a degree in something like computer science? But I don't like programming.

I'm grateful for any real advice or experiences shared.

Also thank you for reading up to here.

What are my chances of being accepted to a top US university with a full ride scholarship?

As the title says...

I really want to go and settle in US,

Cuz life here is miserable day by day!

My (educational) background ;

I'm 22 years old by 2027, but still doing Sri Lankan A levels. So much happened in life during O levels and I skipped a shy in O levels and in first shy of A levels, I got a terrible... really terrible results except for one A, which still hurts.

But it was really unavoidable cuz I have been in bad health for like 5 years. Everybody around me said you did your best comparing to my situation.

But the fact I'm getting older year by year while recovering is really concerning.

On the bright side, I'm really confident in next shy of A levels because my health is recovering rapidly and I can study well like I did before.

So I'm almost sure that I'll get selected for a government university with top results.

But what if I could go beyond that... that's why I'm asking, as in the title.

My subjects are Japanese, business statistics and ICT and I really love to study linguistics, data science or something statistics related.

The problems are;

Mainly my age as above,

No high school transcripts because I'm a private candidate,

Meh results for O levels (2As and others B),

No school transcripts during O level classes, because teachers didn't care to hold a proper test during covid.

But I have a pretty impressive results until grade 9.

Section first from grade 6 to 9

All subjects above 95 marks or even 100 marks for some subjects,

Average is 98.7 at the last term test in grade 9.

No tuition classes, all by myself.

Passed scholarship in grade 5 with 170 marks.

I have JLPT N1 (the most difficult last level) in Japanese language exams too, I passed it during 6th grade.

Other main problem is that I don't have extracurriculars, especially after covid hit.

I went to and won few English creative writing competitions, Art competitions before covid, but

I wasn't awarded best student in any year of prize giving because of lack of extracurriculars than others despite having prizes of 12 subjects out of 13

All I did was studying and I regret that.

So...am I even worth to apply for any universities abroad?

Let alone US top universities?

Thanks for reading up to here.

It would be a great help if you could provide some insight.
