I'm a boy so I'm too stupid to be a doctor
I'm from Canada, about to start junior year of high school. I'll be applying for pre med, I'm very interested in the future of anti-aging and senescence technology, particularly nano and gene therapy. As a backup I could work in research but I'd really like to be a physician, even if I'm in a research field, I think the thorough medical training you get in med school really boosts your ability to see things and put things together, and find new therapies.
Anyway, currently men are only 1/3 of med students here. Male applicants are only accepted at half the rate. The culture here against men is really bad, there's a lot I could talk about but specifically for education and medical school, people believe that men are less intelligent and capable of being doctors, that a man is naturally inferior at communicating with patients, etc. Just in general that men make worse doctors. So everyone defends men not getting into medical school. I've even had teachers say this.
There's a reddit page for people who want to study in Canada and it's honestly REALLY bad, it's very depressing. I would have thought that people smart enough to make it to medical school would be smart enough not to be sexist, but apparently not.
Anyway, I 100% plan on getting in and becoming a doctor anyway. As I said I'm interested in anti-aging, but a part of that interest is in the male life expectancy gap, I would love to start a specialty on men's health to increase our life expectancy and close the gap.
Anyway thanks! First post here.
