Hi everyone (especially NUMs),

I am so frustrated with QLD Health (Metro South) and their new policies for new grad hiring. Is it true that wards cannot hire people anymore unless it is through the new grad portal?

For context, I have been an EN for a while. Got all my competencies signed off (Cannulation, bloods, CVADS, Trachae etc) and have a permanent position in the current ward. However, I’ve walked into other NUMs office, sent emails and even my own NUM has said they cannot hire people unless they’re through the new grad portal?

However the fact is that my name is in the new grad application list. I’m a mid year intake and I initially received an email stating that there is no positions this year for metro south which sucks because you’d think they would not in the first place give you options to choose hospitals that aren’t participating in it?? (like what the actual fk😭😭). Then I got an email saying my name is in the central application pool where my name would be sent off to HHS looking for applicants.

Does that not mean my NUM can actually hire me as my name is in the central application pool?

I feel so down as I put so much effort into my work as an EN, I show up to every shift to give 100% of myself to my patients and I constantly and almost always receive good feedbacks from patients and the senior nurse alike.
