The Old Master

You wake up and you’re not yourself.
But then you remember who you are.
You sit on the floor and wait patiently,
You do this every morning.
And the old master stands in front of you and says “what’s zen?”
And you still don’t really know.

Reign Mc May

Guy decides to give a chess bot an attitude.
Like asking a Rubix cube how its day was.

“What would you ask AI if you could ask it anything?”
“Wrong question,”said the chess bot.
“Well, then, I guess what’s the first thing you would say?” I asked again.
Like burning a CD copy of some song you heard on the radio,
Or the dying wish of a VHS tape

The Imitation

What say of a subculture that tries to adopt the life of a faraway land?
Somewhat unlike the man who sets out to it on his own.
For in that world he’s dropped into an unfamiliar territory and has to learn unfamiliar ways of life.
Wherein we are trying to bring unfamiliar ways of life into our own familiar territory,
Like ordering a lobster in Nebraska.

Truth and Lies

Truth is a powerful weapon.
What then of lies?

a fatal opening, a wound,
yet unsuffered.

Which is the worse outcome of a lie?
That it should be denied
and that you be put to shame?

Or worse even,
That your lie is taken well and recited to others?

Does a dog have Buddha nature?
Can a dog hold a grudge?
You have to understand what is being
asked if you want to understand the answer.
For that matter,
You shouldn’t try to answer, if you really don’t understand what is being asked.

The Flood 🚿

And the prince said ,
Fuck off ;
And leave me to die ;
And off he went .

I love babies but I hate their names;
I’ve either heard it a hundred times before
Or I’ve never seen it written down once in my life.

The Savage is cornered in his lair
And the scene is brutal, sure-worthy.

The conception of a tragedy doesn’t betray its arrival,
Otherwise; you’ll have to walk the plank.
A wish for death may very well bring it

Do Dogs have Buddha nature?

So the bard betrays our senses in the first act of the play by showing us the real ghost of the late king hamlet.
First of all, ghosts aren’t real;
Or are they?

If your dad dies and your mom starts fucking his brother, is it fair to assume he might have killed your dad?

What if he was the King of Denmark?
Does that change anything?

Solomon had 1000 concubines and certainly they only had one father;
And yet Othello can’t abide his parrot paramour?

The Ringing of a Bell, The Unknown Error, The Raising of a Fist, The Twirling of a Flower, The bearded man, The Finger Zen

The Buddha is a dried up piece of shit,

You’re worthless at everything,
I should give you three blows.

Pride is a sin and you’re deserving of none;

Everyone wants make themselves into someone;
but they’re too busy dressing themselves up
tobe something else.

It’s not natural to sit around or think it out;
But sometimes; it can’t get you anywhere-

We don’t live in a world with mistakes
unless that’s what you wanted?

The Master of the Lamp

*Didnt know r/Koans existed so this post was born here*

A wandering monk travelled West and into the desert beyond the sea.
And in the desert he found a precious lamp
when he picked it up
Blue smoke poured out and there with it a Jinn
And the Jinn said
“As the master of the lamp you shall have three wishes;
Name any earthly desire and I shall grant it to you.”

And the monk went into deep contemplation. For 3 lifetimes of incarnation the monk contemplated what his first wish should be.
And finally the monk returned to the Jinn, and said
“Tell me an incredible secret of the universe so that I may experience instant Satori.”

What was the Jinn’s secret?

Appreciate your time
As an avid fan of the bizarre nonsequitor responses these subs are known for, I’m counting on you to give me an answer I wouldn’t expect

Observation on the Lectures

I discovered Jordan Peterson when I was in high school ~10 years ago which was around the time he really started to take off. I watched lots of his lectures and I think it fostered a lot of curiosity I’ve carried since then in politics, philosophy, literature & religion.

Currently starting from the beginning on his Spotify and I still think he’s really good.
But, there’s something I noticed about his lectures.

I went to an engineering school, but I had to take an English/writing/humanities course every semester.

His lectures remind me a lot more of my math/science lectures than my humanities courses.
When I say that, I mean that he presents information as fact.
When I was in my humanities courses, mind you this was undergraduate, we had assigned readings and then class was mostly round table discussion and Q&A. Very different than a professor coming up to the front of the class and telling you what THEY think about such and such a body of work.

And then it compounds with the fact you have a professor spending ample amounts of time in class criticizing higher education at large, which was fascinating to watch on YouTube but understandably bizarre from the perspective of someone sitting in the room, having paid for said experience & being obligated to attend.

I really like the guy, I think he’s a genius. I hope his business enterprise is doing well & I pray for his health. But in hindsight with my own college experience, I can understand how he got himself into trouble with the way he was going about teaching.

Can someone with a humanities or teaching background give a perspective on this? Is it regular for people teaching soft sciences/history/humanities to present content in the way he did, akin to a scientific lecture?

My first Koan

A little girl traveled with her family to China to see the Great Wall.
Upon arrival, she kicked at the foundation and the whole wall collapsed into rubble.

They asked the master what should be done, and he said that the girl should be put to death if the wall couldn’t be rebuilt.

Why was the master so severe?

Thats it. Let me know what you think!
