When I moved from UK to US I immediately purchased a Mustang. Something until recently not available in UK and quite expensive. We watch them growing up but never really see them in real life. I loved it, until we had our second baby and my wife started side eyeing my other baby. Time for it to go.

Now in UK (and Europe) Golf’s are everywhere, my grandpa favorite car was the mk1 which my mom sold after he passed. I had never thought about driving one myself. Anyway was test driving bigger cars like Explorer ST, Tiguan R etc. and I thought let’s test this GTI while I’m here. I forgot how nippy a turbo hot hatch can be, smiled the whole test drive, offered $33k out the door for 2026 GTI S and dealer ended up agreeing (I think it was a good deal?). I vaguely remember my grandpas plaid seats, nice to be in them again.

Anyway I tinted the windows, added Konig Ampliform dark graphite wheels (18x8.5 et43) and went up to 225/45R18 Yokohama tires. I like how they fill the wheel well. So far speedometer is bang on at all speeds comparing with Google Maps (I think the extra circumference countered the VW under tuning).
