Fires in electric and hybrid cars 2025. [Report from the Danish Emergency Management Agency]
Every 5th Danish car is now an electric or hybrid car.
The number of registered electric and hybrid cars is growing significantly in Denmark. Over the past year the number has increased by approximately 42%, i.e. the number of vehicles has increased from approximately 485,000 in 2024 to almost 693,000 by the end of 2025. The share of electric and hybrid cars in the total passenger car fleet has thus increased from 0.4% in January 2018 to 21% by the end of 2025.
Decrease in fire frequency despite a smaller increase in the number of fires in electric and hybrid cars.
In 2025, the emergency services responded to a total of 62 fires in electric and hybrid cars. This is an increase of 24% from the previous year, when the emergency services handled 50 fires in electric and hybrid cars in 2024. Although the number of fires in electric and hybrid cars has increased between 2024 and 2025, the number of fires per 10,000 electric and hybrid cars has decreased, as shown in Figure 1. In 2024, the fire frequency was 1.2, while in 2025 it has decreased to 1.0 in 2025 – a decrease of almost 17%. Figure 1 also shows that in all the years examined from 2018 to 2025, there has been a higher fire frequency in other car types than for electric and hybrid cars.
