What is everyone reading?

Zen has a reputation for being anti-intellectual/anti-philosophical, which I think is much overstated. For what it’s worth, Thomas Kasulis does an excellent job addressing Zen’s philosophy in Zen Action/Zen Person. Of course it’s possible to put too much emphasis on collecting ideas over practice, but I’m interested to see what Zen or Buddhist books people have been enjoying recently.

I’m currently reading David Kalupahana’s History of Buddhist Philosophy, alongside the relevant passages from the Middle and Long Discourses. Next on my list is probably Roger Jackson’s Rebirth and a collection of papers on Zen philosophy called Pointing at the Moon.

A book I’m reading uses an example of things people know: “The Chicago Cubs will not win the World Series Next Year . . . The Cubs never win. Neither do the Boston Red Sox.” The book was published in 2003.

Obviously the author was being a little tongue in cheek, but it’s funny to see how the claim about the Sox was immediately proven wrong. (The book is Epistemology, by Richard Feldman).

Finally good news! Our back-up catcher’s back-up catcher might need a back-up…

I don’t know anything about this guy though is he any good? Do we bring him up?

One month before its theatrical release and some dude named “Homer” is trying to cash in on Christopher Nolan’s success? What a parasite.

I hate that Nolan won’t get credit for his original work. This is gonna be Batman all over again…

What is everyone doing on their rest day?

I am reading and enjoying a quiet night at home knowing the Red Sox are coming home after a well played sweep!

How are you feeling about the Twins series?
