Thoughts on this M.2 NVME adaptor?

Thoughts on this M.2 NVME adaptor?

One of the original reasons behind my purchase of the MS-S1 was that it could take a PCIe card. And you can get a PCIe card that can add NMVE slots. Brilliant.

Grabbed one from AliExpress. Didn't measure the available space and ended up with a dead weight as it was full size and didn't fit.

I thought OK, I'll go for a half height one. It's only 2 slots and it fits inside. Didn't realise that PCIe 4.0 x4 means only one lane and therefore only 1 drive would be available because the motherboard doesn't support bifurcation. Another dead weight!

My current solution is using x2 WD Blue SN5000, each inside a USB adaptor and plugged into the front 2 USB ports (couldn't get them to work in the rear ports)

It works but seems risky.

Anyway, ramble over. I've just seen this one on Amazon that works on PCIe 4.0 x4 and exposes all 4 drives (2 on top, 2 underneath) due to its onboard PLX 8747 controller. Sounds ideal, but this time I'm not rushing in. I know the overall speed would be split between the drives but still seems like it would be faster than my current setup?

Anyone have any thoughts? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

It's £140 which is cheaper than any others I've seen

My Strix Halo setup

Hey all.

Shared this in another thread about tips for your config but it may be of interest here.

I have a Minisforum MS-S1. It's running Proxmox and a few LXC's and I applied Donato Capitella's memory recommendations to the Proxmox boot (amd_iommu=off amdgpu.gttsize=126976 ttm.pages_limit=32505856)

I have an LXC that runs ComfyUI, Hermes Agent, Odysseus and in Docker, I have llama-swap.

I'm fairly new to all this and barely understand what each of these settings do but I seem to have stumbled on a reasonable setup. And I really do mean stumbled as I couldn't get a straight answer anywhere on this.

I'm using Qwen3.6-35B-A3B Q_6_k and was testing a few prompts in Hermes to write some Python.

Anyway with this config (256k ctx), with MTP I get

Tok/s Ingest: 906
Tok/s Generation: 78

Without MTP

Tok/s Ingest: 1,190
Tok/s Generation: 78

That seems good, right?

Any thoughts anyone?

I kept the threads at 14 as I need to keep a couple free for the rest of the stuff that is running.

Edit: I'll add that I am more than happy for any advice on this as It's been a brute force/stumbled into config

New NSV for me

Last time I flew, (9 months ago) I couldn't get the tray down due to my belly. Now there's plenty of room! 😎

Edit: I'm on mobile and there's supposed to be a pic 🤦‍♂️

Goal!

I have officially hit my original goal weight. I honestly never thought I would see this day. Been 30 years since I was last this weight!

Started March 2025 so it hasn't been "rapid". Equates to roughly 1lb/week give or take.

Going to take a couple of weeks off as I'm off to Spain next week (and I bet I'm still bloody freezing) and want to enjoy my food. You can see ski jumps from my screenshot where I've done this previously. Was concerned the first time about the weight gain but that soon came back off when I got back to my routine.

Not saying it has been easy, it hasn't. Far from it, but I'm lucky in that I've not had the physical side effects too much.

Insomnia is the worst part with smattering of Anhedonia.

Anyway, as I accidentally over-ordered last month I now have a couple of 12.5mg pens. Will use those to get to my new goal weight of 16 st and then titrate down to maintenance.

Well done everyone in here, it's a great subreddit and has kept me motivated over the last year
