reputable condo buildings in the uws?
My husband and I have been searching for an apartment to buy on the Upper West Side for the past 3–4 months, and we've come to realize that co-ops probably aren't the right fit for us since we'd like the flexibility to rent the apartment in the future if our plans change.
Our budget is up to about $1.6M, and our must-haves are a condo, 2 bed/2 bath, an elevator, and an in-unit washer/dryer (or at least the ability to install one).
Our dream would be a prewar condo conversion. We love the character, layouts, and charm of those buildings, but we're quickly learning they're few and far between on the UWS. We've also toured some of the newer luxury buildings on Riverside Boulevard, and while they're beautiful, they just aren't our style—they feel a bit too hotel-like.
Has anyone else been in a similar position? Did you eventually find what you were looking for, or did you end up compromising? Are there any condo buildings or pockets of the UWS we should be keeping a close eye on?
Would really appreciate any advice or insights from people who've been through this search.
