American student interested in studying Medicine at Sapienza. Advice on admissions as a non-EU applicant
Hi everyone!
I’m a 23 year old American student who is seriously considering applying to Sapienza University for the English-taught Medicine and Surgery program.
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Biology (Pre-Med) in the United States, and I’m currently finishing my master’s degree in Biological Sciences, which I will complete this December.
I’ve been researching medical schools in Italy, and Sapienza is one of the universities I’m most interested in. However, I would really appreciate hearing from current students, especially non-EU students who have gone through the application process!
I have a few questions:
Admissions: As a non-EU applicant, what would you recommend doing to give myself the best possible chance of being accepted? How competitive is admission, and how did you prepare for the IMAT?
Academic background: Does already having a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biology help with admission at all, or is admission primarily based on the entrance exam?
Application process: What steps did you have to take to apply from outside the EU? Were there any documents, deadlines, or requirements that were particularly difficult?
Student experience: Do you genuinely enjoy studying medicine at Sapienza? How are the professors, classes, clinical opportunities, and overall quality of education?
Moving to Italy: For international students, how difficult was it to find housing, obtain a student visa, and adjust to living in Rome? Is it realistic to find affordable accommodation near the university?
I’m genuinely interested in studying medicine in Italy and would love to hear about your experiences, whether positive or negative.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to share advice! :)
