Hello so I’ve recently been able to squeak out a c2 but it sounds very airy and weak. I’m a sophomore in high school and was wondering if this note has potential to be passable in the future.
So I’m a singer in my high schools choir where I sing bass. Recently I auditioned for my schools theater program and got into the big varsity one. I figured since I sing choir and also am doing theater I would try and participate in my schools musical. Sounds fun and everything, but then it dawned on me that bass roles are few and far between. I sing from a c#2 to an f#4 when I’m singing in the choral sounding style. Do I just need to find some secret sauce to singing high or do I just get stuck in ensemble? I recently saw a role that said it was supposed to fit a low baritone and then it said the highest note was an a4 which kind of crushed my hopes a bit.
So I’m a singer in a choir (where I’m pretty inexperienced) where my vocal range that isn’t including head voice/falsetto is c2 to f4. I have no idea how to consciously mix, but I’m pretty insecure about my capabilities as a singer, as I also sing in a rock band but I can never sing along to songs by other bands. I get that there are different voice types and such and I shouldn’t compare myself to some tenor singing power metal, but I can’t help but think that there’s some secret technique they’re that you couldn’t use in a choral or operatic setting or whatever that lets them hit high notes. Like if a tenors highest note should be around c5 then why the hell are there tenors in rock hitting f#5’s and such like every song when I’m straining on a belted f4? I guess what I’m asking here is do I just suck it up and work with the range I’ve got or do I learn some sort of weird secret technique that’s being gate-kept or do I do option c where I just wreck my voice singing notes I was not designed for.
