I’ve been learning how to fish for about three years with no prior experience, mostly because my son wanted to go but I’m hooked too. Prior to this though I never held a fish or hooked a worm. I’ve learned how to tie knots, rig all the popular rigs like Texas, ned, wacky, chatter etc. and use the techniques I see on YouTube. I try to understand fish behavior and by season and where to try to find them. I go to ponds and lakes that are stocked and have seen others catch fish. I have every plastic and lure you can think of. I have ugly stiks because they are easy and the kids use them too so I know they are unlikely to break. I’d say 99% of the time I don’t catch anything. My son has caught multiple blue gill and he finally caught a bass last week which is what he wants to catch. I was so happy for him because he learns from me and I spend so much time trying to learn how to be successful so I can teach him correctly and give him a chance to catch something. When I fish with the kids I mostly focus on them so I don’t fish much, when I go out on my own I’ve never I mean never have caught a fish, and I’ve gone out many many times. There have been many outings with the kids with no catch. I enjoy fishing and I don’t really get too down on myself because it’s nice to be out there and share a hobby with the kids. It’d be nice to catch a bass one day though. What could I be missing? Am I expecting too much because all I see on social media is people catching fish all the time? I just had AI map out every place that has record of bass and the best criteria for being a good lake or pond in hopes I go to better places to try.
