17X Acceptance - Question

Good evening,

Before I list my credentials and experience, I understand this varies by year, and I have seen posts that state that FY24 and FY25 ramped up on available positions for OTS slots. I also received information from a recruiter that this is the year to apply because there are even more slots available (I don't know if this is accurate information).

Education:

  • B.S. Cybersecurity and Information Assurance (WGU, so 3.0 GPA)
  • M.S. Cybersecurity and Information Assurance (Also WGU)
  • Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Computer Science program with a focus on cybersecurity (Currently 4.0)

Certification:

  • Sec+
  • A+
  • Network+
  • CySA+
  • Pentest+
  • SSCP
  • CISSP

Job Experience:

  • Currently in the Air Force Reserve as a cyber operator; current rank is E5.
  • Network Forensics Operator (2023 - Present)
  • Senior Security Analyst (2022 - 2023, Contract)
  • Real-Time Analyst (2021 - 2022, Contract)
  • IT Help Desk (2019 - 2021)

I took the AFOQT, and I wasn't too happy with the results. Leadership told me to go ahead and apply and see, so I am currently in that process.

AFOQT Score:

  • Pilot: 39
  • CSO: 47
  • ABM: 41
  • Acad Aptitude: 41
  • Verbal: 60
  • Quantitative: 29

If anybody could please provide any feedback on how competitive this may seem, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, I understand leadership skills and experience are considered during the interview process. I am currently noting down what is worth talking about, and I am looking into what skills I have personally that would pertain to being a leader.

(I am applying for an active duty position)
