Saved my Water Damaged Tamron SP 300 2.8

A while back, I posted about water getting spilled into my Tamron 300mm adaptall lens. I was devastated and thought the lens was going to be ridden with fungus and haze. After a week or two of sitting in a sealed bag with silica packets and thorough cleaning of the front element, the lens is totally fine. Here are a few recent shots with the lens on Ektar 100 film.

How to fix water in my tamron lens

A relative spilled water when watering a plant (it was a little muddy, which concerns me) onto my tamron 300 2.8. Most of it landed on the hood but some definitely got inside. There’s now a lot of haze under the front element. I currently have it in a sealed bag with like 15 silica gel packets, but I’m worried that the lens is ruined. How do I make sure the water fully dissipates and no mud or sediment is left behind to damage the glass? I wiped the front element with lens wipes to remove the water spots and it looks mostly okay, but the inside is concerning me. This was my grail lens that I paid a ton of money for, so I’m crushed.

Velvia Skies [XD11, 50 1.4, Velvia 100]

My first time shooting slides. Super happy with the colors!

Velvia Skies (XD11, 50 1.4, Velvia 100)

My first time shooting slides. Used the built-in meter in aperture priority and it worked beautifully. I edited the scans a bit just to bring out more contrast in some of them, but these colors are straight from the film. Super happy with these.

Tamron Adaptall 300 2.8 with 01F Teleconverter (Portra 800)

Lots of CA with this lens and not super sharp, but with a little bit of editing I’m satisfied enough!

Tamron Adaptall SP 300 2.8 (late model)

In love with this lens. Using it on my Minolta XD (size comparison to the MD 200 2.8 in the last picture, which is considered to be a big lens itself). Major rear window vibes. This lens is significantly brighter through the viewfinder than any other f2.8 glass I have, and the focus throw is a dream. Super excited to try some wildlife photography with it soon.

MD 200 2.8 vs Tamron Adaptall 300 2.8

The two fastest telephotos ever made (200mm +) that fit the Minolta SR mount. The 300 2.8 is a brand new lens for me, and it is an absolute beauty. Compared to the 200, it’s a monster, but the sharpness, focus throw, and background compression are in a whole different category.

My humble collection

I love the XD body. Such an intuitive layout with everything I need and nothing I don’t. I almost exclusively shoot in shutter and aperture priority nowadays and use the exposure comp heavily. I rely entirely on the internal meter and it never lets me down. My lenses are the MD W Rokkor 35 2.8, MD 50 1.4, MD Tele Rokkor X 135 2.8, and MD 200 2.8. The only lenses I want that I don’t have are the 35 1.8 and 85 1.7.

Some long exposures on my XD7 | Ektar 100 | 200 2.8

These are straight from the scanner and really low quality scans, but super happy with how the water turned out. Shot these entirely on the built-in light meter, mostly in shutter priority. Got a little more color shift than I expected on the last photo (35 second bulb exposure) but definitely think I can get some good results with better scans and editing

Excited to see how these turn out

My first time trying long exposures with the XD7. Shot some shutter priority before sunset and then continued with bulb mode. Such a fun experience. Ended up using my 200 and 135 for most of it but also got some shots on the 50.
