A paranoid British person worrying too much, probably

Hi all,

I'm a big fan of the Pistons, and my aunt lives in Miami so I have been considering visiting her at some point to watch them play the Heat at an away game. I'm from the UK so it would be a pretty big trip, and I've never been to a sports event in the US before.

In Britain, for instance at football (soccer) games, the away team's fans are given seats in a particular section of the stadium so that they are altogether, as things can often turn nasty between the opposing fans, there are many cases of the home team's fans being violent to away fans after a loss. I wondered if basketball games in the US had a similar sort of separation of fans, or if this isn't as big of a concern? I'd want to be able to freely support and cheer for my team despite being in a stadium of opposing fans.

Any wisdom would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

I don't understand colour neutrality.

For context I average around 22-24 secs. I would call myself "colour neutral" - I start on whichever side gives me the nicest cross.

I genuinely don't understand why not everyone does this? What's the bonus to starting white every time? There must be a reason but I imagine it's not related to cross solutions.

Would it benefit me to try and lock down on starting on only one colour in the future?

EDIT: Thank you all! I now understand :)

Honestly, I'm not good enough yet to start planning beyond one pair in inspection, even given unlimited time, so I think I'll stick to CN for now at least until the time limit starts to really matter.

My cubing journey: Five weeks, nearly 1500 solves, and my first Sub-25 Ao5!

Hello fellow speedcubers! Feels good to be able to use the word "fellow" there, as I feel like I can now call myself sort of almost fast :)

I've known beginner's method for quite a while, but never really timed myself.

Five weeks ago, I thought I'd give it a go for real - my friend (who is sub 15- ridiculously good from my perspective but perhaps not from yours!) lent me a spare cube. It was nice and speedy but not magnetic or anything, but still lovely of him to lend it.

I got started by learning F2L, which you can see caused a bit of a spike in my times a couple days after as I got used to it. I still do it entirely intuitively so there's room for improvement!

I then spent about three weeks grinding and trying to get better until I decided to learn CFOP (with 2 look OLL and PLL obviously!) This corresponded to the slight bump in times you can see around May 25th, as I would sort of just stare at the case until I remembered the algorithm lol.

Then a week later, I got quite drunk and ordered a cube that is frankly far too good for me to justify purchasing at my level currently lol, you can see a sharp increase in the Ao12, but I quickly got used to it!

Since then, I've just been working on learning more PLLs to try and drag the time down. I know know T, U, both Js, both Rs, Z, and H, which if my maths is correct means I can one-look PLL exactly 50% of the time!

It's been so fun but I really understand what everyone says about how slow progress feels - my average has only decreased by about 10-12 seconds in the whole time I've been learning 😭😭

Going to continue learning the rest of the PLLs - what do you think would be my best point after? I'm torn between trying to get OLL done or improving my F2L, as I'm often finishing it at around the 14 or 15 second mark which could definitely been made better!

Would love to be able to get my average below 20 in the next month or so, but it's definitely going to take some work!
