Size and age question

Size and age question

This is my little guy named Sudo. He is roughly 10 months old according to the breeder I purchased him from. I have a quick question though. He is only 15 grams and from what I have read online he should be much larger for his age. Is this something to be concerned about or can some individual just be much smaller? Thank you everyone

Looking to get a corn snake

Hello everyone. I am looking to get a corn snake in a few days. I was going to get a leopard gecko but I decided with my current living situation it would be hard to find time to feed a pet live insects frequently. So I have a 40 gal enclosure (yes I know it will get out grown) but I wanted to ask yall if you had any advice on general care for them. Also how is my enclosure set up? I have a hognose and he’s great but I wanted to get something more active and visible. I’ve read they are super easy animals but I wanted to know some of the more specific needs for these animals. At least If they aren’t really as easy as everyone says they are. Thanks

Question about where to get a leopard gecko

So I am looking at getting a leopard gecko soon. And I have done plenty of research for it. I feel pretty confident about what I need to keep a leopard gecko happy.

There is one thing that I am slightly hesitant about though. I am not sure where to get one. Because I understand the benefits of getting them from a local pet store or MorphMarket. But whenever I go into a petsmart or petco I feel so bad for the lizards there. I know I can give one an infinitely better life than it has. But my girlfriend, who also loves animals of this nature, tells me that it is just feeding into a bad corporate cycle. I just feel bad for the lizards there, and I want to help one out. Any advice?

Eating Questions

My hognose, who’s name is Sudo, is refusing to eat — 5-6 weeks without food, need advice

About Sudo:

• Western Hognose Snake
• Purple Line Axanthic Conda 66% Het Albino
• Male, captive bred
• Born August 2025, approximately 9 months old
• Current weight 12g, approximately 10-12 inches
• Acquired May 10 2026 from local Alabama breeder

Enclosure setup:

• 20 gallon front opening terrarium 30x12x12 inches
• Aspen substrate 4 inches deep
• Basking spot 90-95°F
• Warm side ambient 85-90°F
• Cool side 75-80°F
• Humidity 30-50%
• UVB 5% T8/T5
• 75 watt Arcadia basking bulb
• Lights on timer, 10-12 hours daily
• Warm hide, cool hide, T-Rex skull hide as main tunnel hub
• Large driftwood branch, artificial plants, ceramic water bowl

Current situation:

• Last ate approximately 10 days before pickup with breeder — roughly 5 weeks total without food
• 22 days in new home
• Confirmed drinking regularly — significant water level drop observed
• Active overnight through substrate tunnels
• Built extensive tunnel system throughout substrate
• Hissed once when disturbed — confirmed energy and alertness
• First above ground sighting May 27 at 9:30am for 20 minutes — daytime activity suggesting hunger overriding shyness
• No visible weight loss, spine or ribs not showing
• No wheezing, mucus, or illness signs

Feeding attempts:

• Attempt 1 — Friday May 16: Paper towel method, pinky cooled too fast, refused
• Attempt 2 — Tuesday May 20: Proper dish, better warming, repositioned to skull entrance, refused
• Attempt 3 — Saturday May 24 6:20pm: Feeding dish at skull entrance, left until 7:50pm, refused
• Attempt 4 — Saturday May 24 evening: Paper towel tube method, left until 10:30pm, refused
• Attempt 5 — Monday June 1 7:15pm: Warm tuna scented pinky on dish placed outside warm hide entrance, left 90 minutes, refused

Prey preparation method:

• Frozen pinky thawed overnight in fridge in sealed ziplock
• Hot tap water refreshed every 5 minutes for 15 minutes total
• Checked for zero cold spots — uniformly hot throughout
• 5 second tuna juice dip immediately after warming
• Placed on small feeding dish
• Held under basking lamp 30-60 seconds for surface temperature boost
• Into enclosure immediately

What I haven’t tried yet:

• Cave method — placing snake in enclosed container with prey
• Pinky placed inside the hide rather than at entrance
• Braining the pinky
• Different scenting options beyond tuna
• Assist feeding

Questions:

• Any additional scenting suggestions beyond tuna?
• Is the cave method worth attempting at this stage?
• Any other techniques for a stubborn new hognose?
• Should I be more concerned given the timeline?

Additional notes:

• Snake is otherwise completely healthy by all indicators
• Enclosure temperatures and humidity are dialed in correctly
• Breeder confirmed eating before pickup

Also he’s been much much more active than before. He is consistently above ground for about a total of 1.5 hours in the day. This has been happening for the past few days.

Any help would be great. Thank you guys

Feeding help

So I got this cute little guy a little over 2 weeks ago. Since then I have attempted 3 feedings, each every 5 days and I have had no success. He hasn’t even come out from the substrate to investigate it. I am heating it up properly, dipping in tuna water, and letting it sit the correct amount of time but there is no interest in his food. He hasn’t eating in about 3 weeks and I am not sure what to do. Any advice would be great. I read about handling while feeding (the cave method) but I don’t know if that is good or not. I’ve read opposing views online too.
