Grasshoppers(?) all over my garden- what do?

I'm still very much in the early stages of my gardening but have noticed these little bitches have taken over my lawn the last couple of years.

My house is a new build(ish - it's a refurbished 60s house but has the same rubble-filled, 1cm of topsoil garden as any modern new build because developers). I've not really planted anything except for one hydrangea and a heebee. The grass was pretty nice when we moved in 2 years ago but now dies as soon as it gets sunny and is more weed than grass- unsure if this is because of the soil quality or my new friends.

When you walk over the grass you can see them jumping all over the place, and I can hear them all day. I guess I have three questions:

  1. Are they causing my grass to die?

  2. Do I need to be worried about planting anything else (which i plan to be doing when we get a heatwave break), lest they eat it?

  3. Do I need to get rid? Cool if not.

We have hedgehogs and quite a lot of local birds if these are any considerations

TIA!

Santorini as a Mercury location?

Just returned from a trip to Santorini and couldn't help thinking this view would make an excellent Tyche. I could also see Oia (2nd pic) as quite a good one for Heliopolis

Motorbike CBT instructor charging me for dropped radio - England

EDIT: No idea why this has been flagged as NSFW, sorry!

I'm unsure if this is the right sub for this, so apologies if not!

I did my CBT course this week and, whilst on the road section, the radio the instructor uses to keep in touch fell out of the fluorescent jacket pocket and smashed on the road. It's knackered.

The instructor was insistent that I replace it. I've checked and these radios are the best part of £300. At the time I agreed because I wasn't convinced he would sign my certificate if I put up a fuss, but in hindsight I regret this.

When we got to the end he said something along the lines of 'I trust you to buy a new one and bring it to us, if not we have your address', which came across as a tad threatening. I said I'd be in touch.

My question is: do I need to replace it? I would have thought this was 1. a known risk that should be accounted for by the business, especially as the radios did not have clips to attach anywhere (and he made a comment that similar had happened to someone previously) and b. I would assume they have business insurance to cover this sort of loss?

For some further context

- The radios were pretty old (mine only had one headphone, the other guy riding had two but it was in & out all the time).

- I was not given any instructions on how to wear said radio to avoid it falling out of pockets. It was just handed to me by the previous rider.

Slightly unrelated but adds some colour: the instructor made a multitude of racist and sexist comments throughout the day (and something that I half-caught about some obviously early-teenage girls hanging around in the park next to us- something like 'that could get you in trouble' 🤢).

Help would be much appreciated, thank you!

UK BGE owners: lumpwood recs?

Hey BGE pals,

A lot of this sub is quite american-heavy so just wondering if any UK owners can recommend me the best lumpwood brands? Very overwhelmed with the amount of choice out there.

TIA!
