A Special Day (Qixi Festival) 🎋

I got 200 coconuts from three "normal" event mushrooms in a row today!

Then I looked it up and found out that today, the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, is Qixi Festival, traditionally associated with making wishes.

Hear the Wind Sing and American Graffiti

I like Haruki Murakami's debut novel, Hear the Wind Sing, for its loose, effortless feel and the way the story moves quickly from one episode to the next.

A few years ago, I watched George Lucas's American Graffiti. It strongly reminded me of the atmosphere of Hear the Wind Sing.

I also seem to recall that both works involve a character using a radio show to send a message to someone they have no way of contacting directly.

Another similarity I noticed is the structure. Both stories follow several characters in parallel over roughly the same time period, with their individual storylines loosely intersecting rather than focusing on a single central plot.

My memory of the details may be wrong, so please correct me if I am misremembering. Has anyone else noticed a connection between the two?

I was doing Community Day all wrong.

Today was my first time trying to use Big Flowers to farm seasonal nectar.

I needed Blue Orchid Cactus nectar, so I went out early in the morning. I thought blooming a Big Flower by myself would be the best way to make sure it turned blue.

It wasn't.

In my neighborhood, there wasn't a good route that stayed within the Big Flower's planting radius, so I kept walking out of range.

"Community Day is much less efficient than I expected."

Just before noon, I opened the map.

Almost every nearby Big Flower had already bloomed into Blue Orchid Cactus, and every one of them still had confetti.

That's when it clicked: everyone wanted Blue Orchid Cactus. It's the color every single Community Day player was chasing. I didn't need to rush out at sunrise and bloom one by myself — I just needed to plant a few petals and let everyone else do the rest.

Next month, that's the plan: contribute what I can, then let the community turn it blue for me.

6 Continents Complete!! 🌍

I've mostly been playing Pikmin Bloom by exchanging postcards with friends all over the world.
Today I finally received a postcard from Algeria, which means I've now collected postcards from all six inhabited continents!
I guess Antarctica doesn't have any postcards... 😆

An apology about the month-end flower challenge

I really enjoy inviting friends to the weekly challenge.

This week, though, almost nobody accepted my invitations. I kept thinking, "That's strange," and ended up sending invites to lots of different people before I finally got a team of five.

Today we finished the challenge, and when I saw the rewards, I finally understood why.

Because this week's challenge started before the month changed, the reward was still last month's flowers instead of this month's.

For anyone focusing on this month's event, those rewards are basically useless.

I had no idea that's how it worked, and I ended up dragging four other players into a challenge with rewards they probably didn't want.

I'm really sorry.

Did the Event Challenges UI change?

I just noticed that the Event Challenges screen now shows which Decor Pikmin you've already collected for the current event.

I don't remember seeing this before. Is this a recent update, or did I somehow miss it all this time?

It's a really nice QoL improvement if it's new.

The Moment I Became a Haruki Murakami Fan

Many people know the story that Haruki Murakami decided to become a novelist on April 1, 1978, when he watched Dave Hilton hit a double at Jingu Stadium.

For me, the moment I became a Murakami fan was much smaller: when Charlie rang Professor Sheep's doorbell 26 times in a row in Green Street in Sydney.

The first Murakami novel I tried to read was Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. My first impression was simply, "This is difficult." I tried several other novels afterward, but they all felt strangely heavy to me—like walking around in a brand-new pair of leather shoes. I never managed to finish them.

Then I read Green Street in Sydney from A Slow Boat to China. For the first time, I really felt Murakami's humor and rhythm. After that, even the novels I had once found intimidating suddenly felt much more approachable.

Some people fall in love with Murakami from the very first page. Others, like me, need one particular story or moment before everything clicks.

Did Murakami click for you right away, or was there one particular book or story that changed everything? I'd love to hear your experience.

Stormy Weather

The Flower Crown monthly challenge is almost over,
but it's going to be stormy until the end of the month.

Anyone else seriously considering jogging through that just to finish the challenge? 😅

A beautiful postcard from Kagoshima, Japan 🇯🇵

I just got a beautiful postcard from Kagoshima, Japan.
A big thank you to the friend who invited me to this mushroom battle and made it possible!
It features a stunning view of Sakurajima, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes, seen from the "Sea Observatory" viewpoint.
The scenery is impressive even in-game, and I’d love to visit someday.

How I manage 100+ Pikmin Bloom friends using just nicknames

Once my friend list grew beyond 100 people, I started having trouble keeping track of postcard exchanges and mushroom invitations.

My personal goal is to eventually send at least one postcard to every friend, even if it takes a while. After trying a few different approaches, I've settled on a nickname system that has been working surprisingly well for me, so I thought I'd share it in case anyone else has the same problem.

🛠️ My System

  • ⭐ (Favorite) = New friend added (acts as a "To-Do" flag for my first postcard to them).
  • (Remove Favorite) = Once I successfully send them their first postcard.
  • _{Country Code} = Received 1 postcard from them (e.g., _US).
  • _{Country Code}{Number} = Increments with multiple cards (e.g., _UK2 for 2 postcards from the UK).
  • _i = They invited me to a mushroom battle using a megaphone.
  • _i{Number} = Increments with multiple invitations (e.g., _i3 for 3 invitations).

(See the attached image for a real example: _PL2_i, _TW_i, etc.)

✨ Benefits

  • Instant History: I can quickly see my interaction history with anyone at a glance.
  • Country Filtering: I can easily search by country code to see where my international friends are from.
  • Invitation Tracking: When choosing people to invite to mushroom battles, I can just type _i into the in-game search bar to instantly filter and prioritize active friends who have a history of inviting me.
  • No Spreadsheets Needed: Everything is managed natively inside the app's 30-character limit.

It's not a perfect system, but it's been working well for me so far and saved me a lot of cognitive load.

I'm curious how other people manage large friend lists. Do you use nicknames, external spreadsheets, tags, or just wing it?
