Thinking of doing a series highlighting Judokas, who I should cover?

I’ve been thinking about starting a series where I talk about different Judokas that I find interesting and what makes their Judo stand out.

So far I’m planning on covering:

David García Torné: Because his Judo is super unorthodox and honestly just fun to watch.

Amandine Buchard: because she’s basically the Kata Guruma queen, and I also think her rugby background is pretty interesting.

Fabio Basile: Olympic champion, had neck surgery, and managed to come back and compete again.

I don’t really want this to just be a series about the biggest names or who has the most medals. I’d rather talk about people with interesting styles, techniques, or stories.

Who else should I add? Current or retired, doesnt matter. I’m trying to build a pretty good list.

My Judo was trash during this tournament but BJJ managed to carry me

My kuzushi and mechanics were off but I managed to get 5 victories leaning into BJJ.

My NAGA Blue Belt Absolute , added videos of me doing ground fighting as well.

My throws weren’t really clicking this tournament, but thankfully I remembered I’m allowed to do ground stuff too.

Went 3-0 in the Blue Belt Absolute, all three by submission. Definitely happy with the result, but there’s still a lot I saw in these matches that I need to clean up specially the passing part.

Should the leg grab ban continue?

I recently posted a video saying that I think the leg grab ban should stay in Judo and yeah... people were NOT happy 😂

I used to be pretty against the ban myself, but over time I've kinda changed my mind. I think removing leg grabs forced Judo to develop a more distinct style and put more emphasis on upright posture, gripping and big throws.

That being said, after reading through a bunch of the comments and different arguments, I do think theres some middle ground that could work. Specially allowing leg grabs after an initial attack or as part of a combination/counter, instead of just letting people shoot singles and doubles from neutral.

Another compromise that I really like was one guy saying to allow leg grabs but not scoring from them so we can transition into newaza.

Obviously this topic gets controversial really fast lol, so I'm curious what the actual Judo community thinks.

Should the leg grab ban stay? Should they come back completely? Or would you prefer some type of limited leg grab rule?

Mose Woodson Judo Classic recap

Small tournament this weekend, but I still got some good matches in.

I originally signed up for two divisions, but my only opponent in one of them dropped out. The organizers asked if I'd be willing to compete in the Veterans 43-64 division at 100+ kg. I weighed in at 92 kg, so it was definitely a challenge. I also competed in the 88-95 kg division using a Madison bracket.

100+ kg

- Won 2 matches by Ippon.

- Lost 1 match by Ippon (pin).

88-95 kg

- Won 1 match by Ippon (two waza-ari).

- Lost 1 match by Yuko (the match against the blue gi).

I even managed to apply all the feedback for my drop seoi after I caught flak on my last post lol

I need to work on getting rid of the top grip that gave me so many issues.
