Pan Those Eyeshadows Update 7

Welcome to the Pan Those Eyeshadows project update! Feel free to join anytime. I also posted this on r/ProjectPan with swatch pictures.

The idea of the project is to randomly generate 5 eyeshadows from your collection and work on them until you hit pan. Once you hit pan you roll in another shadow to replace it so that you always have 5 shadows to work on.

If you want you can change the rules to your liking, like instead of hitting pan you can set a usage goal or hand pick your shadows. Personally, I implemented a rule that if I randomly roll in a shadow that already has pan then my goal is be to use it 15 times.

You can also share your pan percentage. It tells you what percentage of your collection has pan.

This project updates monthly on the first day. If you want to join feel free to leave a comment sharing the shadows you're working on and your goals. I'll be sharing my update in the comments.

My update:

I'm so excited to share that I hit my goal on all the five eyeshadows. Here's the colour story I was working on in June:

June 2026 colour story

  • Smashit Cosmetics Mix 6 #34 (orange matte). Hit pan. I only had to use it 2 additional times all over the lid to hit pan. It took me 5 total uses in this project to hit pan.
  • Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Seabed (dark brown shimmer). Hit pan! I used it 7 additional times making for a total of 14 uses in this project. I used it all over my lid and blended into the crease and sometimes as a liner and once on my eyebrows.
  • Smashit Cosmetics Mix 6 #19 (pink shimmer). Hit pan after 3 more uses and 26 total uses in this project. I used it mostly as a lid colour.
  • Cosmic Beauty Delights Smoothie (pink matte). Hit pan after 17 uses. I was wearing it pretty generously on the lid and crease. I’m so happy that it didn’t irritate my eyes like some pinks do.
  • Dominique Cosmetics Celestial Storm Zero Gravity (grey brown matte). 15/15 uses, so goal met. I was able to expand the pan a little bit.

I randomly generated 5 new shades to work on. I was lucky to get a cohesive colour story. Here's the new colour story:

July 2026 colour story

New roll-ins:

  • Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Imagine (silver shimmer). Not very summery but it goes well with the other shades. The formula is nicer on this one than the rest of the palette.
  • The Balm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Matt Ahmed (black matte). Thankfully I’ve already hit pan on it so my goal is 15 uses. I took me like a hundred uses to hit pan originally. I should meet my goal quickly by wearing it on my outer corner and lashline.
  • Moira Beauty Adventure Draw Token (green shimmer). It’s a translucent white base with green shimmer. It's my favourite shadow in the palette. It's nice as an inner corner highlight or as a topper.
  • Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Bay (beige shimmer). It’s an easy reach as an inner corner highlight. I already started using it when I hit my goals on last month’s shadows so I have a good head start.
  • Glossgods Vintage Glam Vintage Vamp (purple matte). I love my dusty purples. It goes nicely with the silver. I've never used it before so I don't think I'll hit pan any time soon.

My pan percentage: 116 pans / 318 eyeshadows ≈ 0,365 = 36,5 %.

Hot take: Only keeping products that "spark joy" is bullsh*t

Way too often I see youtubers tossing products because they "no longer feel excited to use them" or "they no longer spark joy". So they toss them and buy new ones which will eventually face the same fate.

Tossing things that "no longer make you feel happy" is a pretext to toss perfectly good products just because you're bored and want the rush of buying something new. It's a never ending cycle of overconsumption and a sign of possible shopping addiction.

You're not supposed to derive your happiness from buying and owning products. Excitement over something new is fleeting. It doesn't fill the void.

I'm not saying you should hate pan things that really don't work for you. I'm also not saying that you're not allowed to feel excited about your favourite products. I just think it's harmful to market makeup as something that should make you feel joy and if not it's worthless.

Because most of the time makeup is there to be used. It's a tool. When you've had a product for a while it starts to look worn and loses the special, fancy feel. That's okay. That's normal. The product is still working perfectly fine so you should keep using it instead of seeking happiness from a place you will never truly find it.

My update

I hit my goal on 2 shadows! Not as good as I was expecting but it's progress nevertheless. Here's the colourstory I was working on in May:

May 2026 colourstory

  • Smashit Cosmetics Mix 6 #34 (orange matte). I used it 3 times on my lashline this month. There was already a small dip in it when I rolled it in the project and it looks pretty much the same. It didn't go with my colourstory and I don’t care for oranges that much but I’ll try to chip away at it.
  • Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Seabed (dark brown shimmer). I used it 7 times which is more than I thought I would. I did enjoy wearing it and I especially liked it paired it with yellows. I also used it as a liner. There's a little bit of disturbance on the pan but it looks pretty much the same as before.
  • Smashit Cosmetics Mix 6 #19 (pink shimmer). I used it 18 additional times making for 23 uses total in this project. I thought I would hit pan for sure but I didn't. The shadow is very hard pressed. There's a huge dip now. I should be able to hit pan next update.
  • Glossgods Look for Rainbows True Colors (blue duochrome). Hit pan in 8 total uses. These shimmers are very easy to hit pan on because they're so creamy. I was using my finger to apply the shadow most of the time and I was careful with it but I still hit pan quickly. I did enjoy wearing it.
  • Nyx Brights #9 (blue shimmer). 15/15 uses, goal met. I was able to expand the pan significantly. Loved my bright blue-pink looks.

I randomly generated 2 new shadows to work on. Here's the new colourstory:

June 2026 colourstory

New roll-ins:

  • Cosmic Beauty Delights Smoothie (pink matte). I've never used this palette before but I'm excited for a hot pink. It'll go well with the pink shimmer.
  • Dominique Cosmetics Celestial Storm Zero Gravity (grey brown matte). This shadow loves to be in this project. I worked on it earlier this year and in previous years as well. Since it already has pan my goal is 15 uses. It goes well with the pinks. I'll probably wear it on my lash line.

I hit two pans this past month so my pan percentage is 35,2 %.

2 new pans

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette.

Making steady progress. My goal is to use up the cream shadow. I use it on my inner corner and to blend and clean up my outer corner. I've uses it hundreds of times now.

I also hit pan on the pale pink and dark brown shadow. These shadows have 2,4 grams of product so I'm only attempting to finish the easiest shade.

My update

I hit my goal on 4 shadows! And I could finally roll out all the dark browns. Here's the colourstory I was working on in April:

April 2026 colourstory

  • Ciaté Everyday Vacay Jetsetter (pink shimmer). Hit pan after 9 additional uses and 22 uses total. It took me longer to hit pan on than I thought but now I have a huge dip in it as well.
  • Sigma Enchanted Loam (dark brown matte). Hit pan after 15 more uses and 32 uses total. Wasn’t expecting this pan but I’m glad I can finally roll the shadow out.
  • Smashit Cosmetics Mix 6 #19 (pink shimmer). I've used it 5 times in this project. I had a few previous uses in it as well. There’s a slight dip now. I think I’ll focus on hitting pan on this one next.
  • Sigma Hazy Melancholy (dark brown matte). Hit pan! I used it 17 additional times the past month making for a total of 55 uses in this project. I wasn’t expecting to hit pan yet but I’m thrilled that I finally did. I mostly used it on my brows. It irritated my eyes when I used it as a liner so I’m going to scrape the shadow out and toss it just to be safe. I haven’t had this palette for super long and the rest of the shadows are fine so I don’t know what’s going on with this one.
  • Ciaté Everyday Vacay Deep Dive (dark brown matte). Hit pan! I used it an additional 8 times and 27 times total to hit pan.

I randomly generated 4 new shadows to work on. Here's the new colourstory:

May 2026 colourstory

New roll-ins:

  • Nyx Brights #9 (blue shimmer). Finally, some fun colour! The shadow is slightly shimmery but on the eye it looks more like a matte. Since I've already hit pan on it my goal is 15 uses. I already started using it so now I'm at 7/15 uses.
  • Glossgods Look for Rainbows True Colors (blue duochrome). The colour goes from aqua to blue to purple. It goes perfectly with the other blue. I should be able to hit pan in a month.
  • Smashit Cosmetics Mix 6 #34 (orange matte). It’s a terracotta orange. I’ve used it a bit in the past but no major progress. It’s not very springy. Maybe I’ll wear it on my lashline or let it marinate for a while.
  • Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Seabed (dark brown shimmer). Alright, we’ve got one neutral option. I haven’t used this colour much but these shadows are quite easy to hit pan on. But I think I’ll focus on the more colourful shadows first.

I also hit 2 bonus pans. So now my pan percentage is 34,6%.
