RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Zach Sawchenko to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Sawchenko $850,000 in the NHL or $150,000 in the American Hockey League (AHL), with a guarantee of at least $190,000.
About Zach Sawchenko:
The Calgary native spent the 2025-26 season with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, going 14-10-3 with a 3.05 goals-against average and .880 save percentage.
Sawchenko, 28, has appeared in seven career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, registering a 1-2-1 record with a 3.35 goals-against average and .905 save percentage.
The 6’1”, 185 lb. netminder has a career AHL record of 56-57-15 with a 3.08 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in 135 games with San Jose, Abbotsford, Chicago and Cleveland.
Spent the 2022-23 season with the Hurricanes’ top AHL affiliate in Chicago, posting a 17-18-3 record and 3.10 goals-against average.
Sawchenko has also appeared in 20 ECHL games with Orlando and Allen, going 13-4-3 with a 2.42 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.
Prior to turning professional, he spent two seasons at the University of Alberta, earning a 28-4-1 record with a 1.74 goals-against average and five shutouts in 34 games.
He also played 177 games over four seasons with Moose Jaw in the Western Hockey League (WHL), going 88-65-16 with a 3.11 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward Charlie Cerrato to a three-year, entry-level contract. At the NHL level, Cerrato will receive $775,000 in 2025-26, $850,000 in 2026-27 and $900,000 in 2027-28. He receives $85,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for all three seasons, and the deal includes signing bonuses worth $220,000.
“Charlie is a skilled, two-way center who has excelled at the college level over the last two years,” said Tulsky. “He’s strong at faceoffs, smart defensively and should be an excellent fit for the way the Carolina Hurricanes play hockey.”
Cerrato, 21, completed his second season at Penn State and was the Nittany Lions’ leading scorer before suffering an injury on January 9 against Minnesota that forced him to miss most of the remainder of the year. The Fallston, MD, native returned to the lineup on March 6, and finished the season with seven goals and 20 assists (27 points) in 23 games. Cerrato earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors in 2024-25, leading all Big Ten rookies in goals (15), assists (27) and points (42) in 38 games. He ranked second in the nation in points and assists and third in goals by a freshman skater. The 6’1”, 195 lb. forward completes his collegiate career with 69 points (22g, 47a) and 78 penalty minutes in 61 games.
Prior to college, Cerrato spent the 2023-24 season with Youngstown in the USHL, registering 50 points (12g, 38a) in 45 games, ranking second among Phantoms skaters in points and leading the club in assists. He also spent two seasons (2021-23) with the United States National Team Development Program, totaling 29 points (9g, 20a) in 54 USHL games in that span.

[Canes] Jankowski 2 Year $1.85 AAV Extension

RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed left-wing Mark Jankowski to a two-year contract extension. The deal will pay Jankowski an AAV of $1.85 million through the 2027-28 season.
“Mark has been an excellent fit for our organization throughout his time here,” said Tulsky. “He’s proven he can contribute in different ways, and we are glad he’s chosen to remain with the organization.”
Jankowski, 31, recorded 21 points (11g, 10a) with a +7 plus/minus rating in 68 regular-season games with Carolina in 2025-26. He has also added one assist in eight playoff appearances this season with the team. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Jankowski has registered 145 points (79g, 66a) in 482 career NHL games with the Flames, Penguins, Sabres, Predators and Hurricanes, as well as four points (1g, 3a) in 31 playoff appearances with Calgary, Nashville and Carolina. Prior to turning professional, he played four seasons with Providence College, winning an NCAA championship with the Friars in 2015. The 6’4”, 200-pound forward was originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the first round, 21st overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft, and was acquired by Carolina from Nashville in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft on March 7, 2025.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Charles Alexis Legault from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Legault, 22, appeared in 12 regular season games with the Hurricanes in 2025-26, earning two points (1g, 1a) and a plus-5 rating. The Laval, Que., native made his NHL debut at Vegas on Oct. 20 and netted his first NHL goal on Nov. 8 against Buffalo. Legault had surgery on Nov. 10 to repair multiple torn extensor tendons on his right hand following a laceration from a skate blade at Toronto on Nov. 9. The 6’4’’, 220-pound blueliner also played in 24 AHL games this season with Chicago, registering eight points (3g, 5a) and 48 penalty minutes. Legault completed his first professional season in 2024-25, totaling 14 points (3g, 11a) and a plus-11 rating in 63 games with the Wolves. Selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round, 139th overall, at the 2023 NHL Draft, Legault played collegiately at Quinnipiac, scoring 11 goals and adding 22 assists (33 points) in 79 career games and capturing the 2023 NCAA National Championship with the Bobcats.
