Another 9800X3D damaged
Hey everybody,
i am posting this for mere statistics for the ASRock killing AMD issue. That being said I do I think I might have simply had bad luck in silicon lottery.
I have my setup since sep 25.
Board was shipped with 3.25 BIOS and system ran with stock BIOS settings until 4.03. After that I tried EXPO 6000 for the first time. While system was perfectly stable under windows i had random POST issues with the system hanging on green status LED while any EXPO profile was enabled. Resetting usually fixed it and system booted. Jedec was always stable. MCR and FastBoot disabled led to slower but more stable post behavior but didn't fix it.
System:
ASRock B850 Riptide WiFi
AMD R7 9800X3D
2x32GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 6000 CL30
Sapphire RX 9070 XT
2 TB Lexar NM1090 Pro PCIe5
2 TB Lexar NM790 PCIe4
850W BeQuiet Dark Power 5 (not 100% sure but some BeQuiet 850w PSU)
Despite the post issues the CPU was rock solid after post even for 16h daily use I never had crashes or BSoD. The CPU hit 95°C on shader comp while gaming. Other than that it sat at 45 in idle and 55-65 during gaming.
I tested both RAM Sticks individually, swapped slots, reseated all components of the PC. Issues stayed.
I bought an R5 7600X and swapped CPUs and issues stopped immediately.
I RMAd and AMD sent me a new CPU. I still have 2 years of guarantee so i risk it and keep the board for now. If the new CPU fails again i still have the 7600X which is strong enough for daily use.
I don't know if the CPU got damaged or was broken out of the box.I used it for about half a year until i tried EXPO first time. Thats also the first time i saw any issues and only during expo enabled. In the end its a bad CPU. New CPU fixed it. Thanks AMD for fast RMA. I waited for 5 days until new CPU arrived.
