Soulslikes are my absolute favorite type of game and I loved this beta so much. Now I'm sad that I have to wait until the full game releases.

But I'm wondering if I took too long to complete it, just saw someone who finished it in 44 minutes??

Also, did you guys upgrade the weapons?

[Sci-Fi] Book/short story about a man trapped in a medieval virtual reality

Hello! First of all, I am unsure if what I read was the beginning of a book or a short story, but here are the details that I remember:

  1. The story begins in a realistic medieval setting, very gritty and brutal, not the fantasy dnd style.

  2. The protagonist is a man who might be: a soldier, guard, warrior or a sort of military leader. He genuinely believes he’s just a person from that world.

  3. Right in the beginning, it is revealed to the reader that he’s actually in a simulation. He’s in a virtual reality in his head, not in a physical space like westworld.

  4. Possibly it’s mentioned that he’s a criminal of sorts and that the virtual reality is a punishment or experiment.

I read it as an ebook in 2011 - 2013, but I believe it was a lot older. For reference, it was at the same time that I read ‘The Far Arena’ because I was very interested in books about Time Travel, but I think I didn’t finish reading it because I thought ‘Oh, he’s in a virtual reality so it’s not actual time travel’ but looking back it’s such an interesting premise.

I’ve been looking for books with similar themes for a while, but none of them quite match what I remember. I have to say I started wondering whether I had imagined it or mixed together details from different stories, but I decided to try one last time, so if anyone recognizes this or remembers reading something similar I’ll be glad to hear it.

Thanks in advance!
