Housing Material Suggestion

Good morning everyone! I’ve been thinking a lot about our obvious housing problem, and one of the obstacles between us and more homes in particular: material costs.

I had an interesting idea that I wanted to just throw out there and see what might be wrong with it or stopping it from coming to fruition, and what others think about it:

Allow loggers to (responsibly) increase lumber production, but require that all the additional logging be used for the construction of affordable houses in Vermont. Could the state subsidize this to an extent, open up land temporarily, or ‘direct’ companies to log more, then store it or coordinate with construction companies to ensure all the lumber is used for affordable housing? And, would this actually do anything to create a dent in material prices?

Edit: this is obviously not a fully thought through idea, and I’m not so much invested deeply in this specific approach as I am in finding creative ways to make affordable housing more achievable.

Colchester Woods closing down

In Colchester Woods, the network behind CHS where there is lots of homemade single track and whatnot, the land owners appear to be changing their tune on the network.

These signs are near the top of the hill with the lookout, and the trails are blocked with fell trees. The lookout is included in the area now closed off.

I also spotted “no biking” signs in other parts of the woods. Truly a sad loss.
