Predicting tax rate for cash job schedule C

Hi all, I’ve tried googling this but cannot find a direct answer. I have a cash side gig that I plan to file schedule c taxes for. I am setting aside 30% of my pay for taxes but I don’t know if that is too low or too high. I estimate I’ll make ~$5,000 total this year. I have a regular 9-5 job that I file as a regular W2 jointly. Does 30% seem like a good percentage to withhold?

I plan to file my quarterly taxes from Q2 soon so I know I’ll have a more exact answer, but want to plan things out. Thank you!

Edit to add: combined with my husband our W2 income is just shy of $300k. I’m in Illinois and I don’t have any expenses related to the job!

Nuances of formal vs informal?

Hello! I am taking Spanish lessons and am trying to understand the nuances of using the formal vs informal forms. For context, some days I work the cashier at a convenience store/deli and there are some Spanish speakers that come in. I cannot tell which form is most appropriate. Should I look at the general setting (informal store) or relationship (cashier vs customer)?

Last week a customer came in and didn't say much and when I was wrapping up I heard him speaking Spanish to his friends, so I said "Que tenga un bonito dia" and he said thank you but was giggling. I couldn't tell if he was just pleasantly surprised or if I came across too formal.

Today I asked a customer if he wanted a bag and said "Quieres una bolsa?" instead of "Usted quiere una bolsa?" and I couldn't read the customer to know if that was the correct form or just too casual.

Some people are regular customers too so I assume at that point informal is okay. When I speak in English in this setting, it is very casual. I may be overthinking this but do not want to come across as disrespectful.

I plan to ask my teacher at my next lesson, but I have a shift before then and don't want to make a fool of myself! :) Is it better to err on the side of the formal version regardless of setting? Thank you!

Edit to add: I am in Chicago and assume I am speaking to people from Central and Latin America.

Rolling admissions timeline?

Hi all! I applied for a doctoral program (non-PhD) at a small state school and it has rolling admissions. I completed my portion of the application in early April and my final recommendation came through May 12th. This is for Fall 2026.

When programs say rolling admissions, generally how long does it take to hear back? I am just past the 4 week mark which I know is not overly long, but I'm hoping to find out soon so I can adjust my schedule and start saving for the school session in 2 months (if I get in!).

I inquired with my assigned admissions rep about a general timeline and they encouraged me to reach out to the program staff. I did, but did not hear back and I don't want to be annoying and ask again haha. I've never applied to rolling admissions for a grad program before and am curious how long it took you to hear back!

I also know it is now summer and my full app probably went in as folks were wrapping up the school year. So, I know, I know, I should probably calm down! lol. TIA!

What is the best place for second-hand antique/vintage doors in Chi?

Hi! I’m trying to bring character back to our condo and am looking for a second-hand spot that sells old doors. I’ve been on FB marketplace but they only have one-offs and I’m looking for about 8 doors. I was looking at Rebuilding Exchange and it says temporarily closed!
