Would you buy a house in a known landslide-prone area?
Viewed a lovely house that checks all the boxes but the City of Seattle’s map of environmentally critical areas (ECA) places it in a “known landslide” area. And it’s very precisely within the boundaries of the ECA - it would be fine if it were just a couple doors down. It’s on a gently sloped block. The house is old and sturdy and doesn’t look like it’s been landslide damaged before, but I’m afraid it would collapse in an earthquake, or the neighbor’s house just above it on the hill would fall on it. I’m also afraid of insurance costs. Would you bid on this?
