Safari New Tab shows ghost image of previous webpage in the background (macOS 26.5)
I’m experiencing a strange Safari issue on macOS 26.5, and I’m wondering if anyone else has seen this.
Sometimes when I open a new tab, the Safari Start Page shows a faint ghost image/text from the last webpage I visited in the background instead of a clean Start Page. The previous page appears underneath the Start Page UI, almost like Safari isn’t fully redrawing the screen.
I’ve also noticed the same issue on my iPhone running iOS 26.5, so it isn’t limited to my Mac.
I’ve already tried:
Restarting both devices
Force quitting Safari
Clearing Safari history and website data
None of these fixed the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this on Safari 26.5 or macOS 26.5? Is this a known WebKit/Safari rendering bug, or has anyone found a workaround?
