Basic but perfect combo?

MacBook Air + EarPods that I can wear for hours on end working and never get tired! I know they’re obviously not the best you can buy but I’ve personally found incredible value in the EarPods. Great for numerous calls and good enough sound quality for music and podcasts

Small transparent/white spots appearing on my MacBook Air M4 display — possible screen defect?

I recently noticed around 4–6 small spots on the display of my MacBook Air M4. They don't look like normal black/dead pixels. They look more like tiny transparent or white/blue spots, almost like there is a small bubble or something underneath the display.

I can mainly see them when the screen is dark or when light reflects off the display. When I look at the screen without direct light/reflection, they're sometimes difficult to see. I also noticed that I can see the spots when the MacBook is closed and the display is reflecting light.

I've gently cleaned the display with a microfiber cloth, but I'm still unsure whether these are actually inside the display or just reflections/surface marks. I haven't dropped the MacBook or spilled anything on it. I have carried it in a normal bag, but there was no known impact or pressure on the screen.

The MacBook is still under Apple's warranty. Has anyone experienced something similar? Could these be defects in the display coating/layers, or are they just reflections? Should I take it to Apple for a warranty inspection?

I've attached photos showing the spots. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just bought an old iMac Keyboard and Mouse, are they the real deal?

I just found these two at a Goodwill, it’s the keyboard and the hockey puck mouse from the iMac, still wrapped in plastic! They look (and smell) brand new! The keyboard is spotless, even between the keys and in the usb ports, the ball in the mouse is spotless too, the usb cable is wrapped up still on the keyboard, and they came wrapped in plastic. (Ignore the box, that’s what they were sold wrapped up in)

Does anyone know anything more about these? Can anyone tell me if they’re legit or not? Is that the factory plastic, or did someone wrapped them up later on? Is there a way to verify these are a legit Apple keyboard and not a copy? I think it’s a cool find (I love old Apple stuff) but is this a valuable find?

Any insight anyone has is appreciated!

My Intel MacBook Pro has 948 battery cycles — is it time to replace the battery?

My Intel MacBook Pro has reached 948 battery cycles, and I’m still using the original battery.

Here are the specs...

So my Intel MacBook Pro is currently at 948 battery cycles with 78% battery health(never change battery)

It’s a Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with 8GB RAM, running macOS 15.7.7.

still works fine for what I need, but lately it’s been getting really hot and laggy pretty often, so I’m thinking about replacing the battery(even jump to mbp m6?)

I know 948 cycles is already quite a lot, but I’m curious — would replacing the battery help with the heat at all? Or is the heat probably just because it’s an old Intel Mac? Maybe the storage is almost full is another problem?

Anyone else still using an Intel MacBook with a crazy high cycle count? How long did yours last?

Macbook neo stutter

Hey y'all, I don't know if it's visible in the video, but I'm noticing frame drops/stutter in the pop-in animation on my MacBook Neo (the scale-up effect you see when Quick Look opens a preview, or when a dialog like the shutdown confirmation appears). Specifically that "grow from a point" animation. Anyone else run into this or know a fix? Sorry if I'm overreacting, it doesn't really affect my workflow, just didn't really expect a frame drop on a brand new device.

2020 iMac vs. 2021 M1

Hi! I’m just looking for some advice as to which iMac would be a better investment for my needs. I currently have a 2017 MacBook Air that I use for school but obviously it can no longer update. I don’t need anything brand new, and this will be used really through January for school at home, and after that most likely just light home use. I don’t need the newest machine but still want it to be worthwhile. Right now, I’m looking at a….

2020 Apple iMac, 27-inch Retina 5K display, 3.8 GHz 8-core Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT graphics with 8 GB of dedicated graphics memory, and 8 GB of 2667 MHz DDR4 RAM. Currently running macOS Tahoe 26.5.1.
$400

vs.

2021 Apple iMac, 24-inch Retina 4.5K display, Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU and 7-core GPU, 8 GB unified memory, and 256 GB SSD storage.
$600

Any help is much appreciated!

Stunning software bloat

Hi everyone,

So yesterday I wanted to open a PDF as a double page spread (a book). At the time i didn’t think i could do it in the preview app so i downloaded Acrobat reader. I was shocked that the download was nearly 800mb. Then i was even more shocked when it required almost 3gb of space 😳😳😳 WTF!!!

In the ‘good old days’ Windows and Office would fit very very easily on a 500mb drive. What the hell has happened?

Advice please on Late ‘11 15” MBP

I have a Late 2011 15” MBP which experienced motherboard failure years ago & I salvaged the SSD. The matte screen is perfect, housing in great shape. I’m trying to declutter - ship to Apple for recycling or sell off for parts? TIA!

MacBook Air M3 battery replacement — new battery but poor battery life. Is this normal?

I have a MacBook Air 13-inch M3 that recently started showing “Service Recommended” for the battery. I gave it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (Aptronix) for a battery replacement under warranty.
The repair has now been completed, and the service report says:
“New Battery Replaced under warranty.”
The replacement battery information on my Mac currently shows:
Cycle Count: 1
Maximum Capacity: 100%
Condition: Normal
Battery serial number: matches the replacement battery serial number on the Aptronix service report.
So the battery replacement itself appears to be legitimate.
However, I’m experiencing much worse battery life than I remember getting when the Mac was new.

I  handed over the Mac on August 11 with 32% battery remaining. The last time I had charged/used it before handing it over, it was at 32%.
When I received the Mac back after the repair, it was still at exactly 32%.

What would you do with this old, highly specced 2021 Intel i9 iMac 27inch?

It was a beast in its time, costing $4000 with factory upgrades. Got me through middle school with my highly demanding Google Docs workflow. I no longer use it because I had to get an M3 air for highschool and recently upgraded to an M3pro pro (traded laptops with my mom).

Any ideas on what to use this iMac for? I was thinking something along the lines of a home server or ai agent or NAS but idk- be creative. It sits in a location that could be used as a community computer, although we all have our own macbooks, but I want to start using it again as it feels like a waste just sitting there. I also heard that older iMacs could have RAM upgraded which is cool.

Please give useful ideas below. I don't really wanna sell it because it's a beautiful machine and some sentimental value as it was a christmas gift from my parents.

Specs written from chat:

  • 2020 27-inch iMac Retina 5K
  • CPU: 3.6 GHz 10-core Intel Core i9
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 1 TB SSD
  • GPU: Radeon Pro 5700, 8 GB

I also have an old 2020 MBP Intel i9 that is just lying around if you have ideas on what to do with that as well.

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)
  • CPU: 2.4 GHz 8-core Intel Core i9
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Storage: 2 TB SSD
  • GPU: AMD Radeon Pro 5600M, 8 GB

thanks.

Trying to use samsung t5 ssd with my mac

Im fairly new to mac and have used this hardrive previously with windows computers. The format is in exfat already. Disk utility says uninitialized. Wont let me erase and reformat(shouldnt have to, figured id try it), says erasing has failed.

Maybe im just more illiterate than i thought. Im kicking and screaming with frustration on how difficult they make this. Am i going to have this problem with a simple usb drive too? I miss windows already
