Support of 3rd party watch faces

Pretty sure about I’m doing something wrong but here goes - I installed a 3rd party watch face app and tried installing a watch face from it. To my nightmare it says I must keep that app open for the watch face to remain appearing. That is to say the watch face did not actually install natively but just appears as a face on the app as long as I keep it open.
This is not how it should be isn’t it? Or is this really another restriction from apple?

Name of the app is watch faces gallery.

Just moved from android ecosystem to apple ecosystem

I can go rant about the iOS shortcomings on some other sub but I'm just flabbergasted by how much better the wear OS IS compared to watch OS. I mean on the iOS at least the aesthetics are superior to its android counterpart, if not the functionality, but on the watch even the UX seems so substandard

  1. The full screen scrollable tiles are so much easier on the eyes and more practical that smart stacks

  2. The app menu on AW is so small and cluttered it hurts my eyes trying to find the apps. The wear OS has larger icons that looks great and is certainly more practical

  3. The music now playing screen (the main reason I bought apple watch) does NOT display by default as soon as the music starts. After finding the smart widget and then clicking on it brings it up but the interface is simply not as pleasing as wearOS which gives full screen album art with larger play pause buttons. This really made me utterly disappointed.

  4. No Bluetooth shortcut button in control center.

Overall it looks like if Apple could just copy the aesthetics and functionality from Google, it would be so much better.

Is there an Ebook reader with Flipboard like reading experience on iOS

Just the title. I'm appalled that no one has ever thought of it.
