The chassis and engine are pretty much done. Next up is trying to paint the body. This has been a fun kit, it goes together well. I had trouble with some of the smaller decals, but they are hard to see anyway.

AMT 1968 Camaro Z/28 - Pro Street

I have been working on this on and off since the start of this year, and it's finally finished.

It has a lot of 3d printed parts including:

  • Rear wheel tubs and rear axle/diff
  • Wheels/tires
  • Seats, shifter, nitrous
  • Engine, trans, brake cylinder
  • Wipers and door handles

The paint is Tripoli Turquoise Metallic from scalefinishes. That is the same color as the real 1968 Camaro I had when I was younger.

I'm happy with the way the tub ended up fitting, the interior, and the overall stance of the car. It all fit together better than I thought it would.

There were definitely a few challenges:

  • The cowl right below the windshield - I butchered it removing the built in windshield wipers and tried to fix it up the best I could.
  • The stripe decals. The first coats of paint and clear coat looked really good but the stripe decals practically fell apart. I almost removed them but decided to just live with them.
  • The Tub ended up fitting great, but the 3d printed rear end and suspension were very hard to install. I put too much pressure on it when test fitting a wheel and all of the struts just shattered. I had to re-do them with styrene. It was not straight after that, so I had to adjust the wheels to make it look right.

The last picture is 18 year old me in the 1968 Camaro that I bought for $500. One car I wish I still had.

With that one done I can try to make more progress on my 911 build!

Starting out on the Revell 911 Carrera 3.2

Just getting started on the 911.

The only custom parts will be these neat Quinta Studio 3d decals for the interior. That should be a fun challenge. They tell you to remove and fill spots on the dashboard that I can barely *see*.

After looking at a bunch of these cars I decided on Grand Prix white with a tan interior. I'm experimenting with the interior color mix, and think I'm getting close.

I have most of the parts cleaned up and primed, and in the process I did make one mod: I was trying to use a panel line scriber and I put a nice gouge in the sunroof panel line right next to the actual panel line.. grrr. I tried to fix it but it ended up looking like a mess, so it's now on it's way to being a custom non-sunroof car. Truly a base model.

Revell Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Coupe

I'm going to build this one for the 911 Group Build. I should have the exterior and interior color figured out this week. It's fun looking at a bunch of these cars on bring a trailer. If I want it to be realistic, I need to have some oil stains on the bottom lol.

I hope to be finished with my current build before I start this one.

Revell 1985 Fiero GT with V8 Swap (Finished)

This was supposed to be a quick build after the DTS group build. I had the unused engine from my 69 Camaro, so I ended up spending a bunch of time making it fit. The original V6 went to another user on here for a Camaro :) The original engine was twin turbo, but I ended up putting on a 3d printed carb and air cleaner. I don't think the turbo setup would have fit.

I had to modify the engine cover to clear the V8 carb and air cleaner, and while it fit perfectly for most of the build, something is keeping it from sitting flush when it's assembled. I think the back window is pushing it forward a bit.

I'm really happy with how the exaust came out, and I deleted the catalytic converter.

I'm still working on my masking techniques and getting a better finish but I'm getting there. I wan't happy with the first attempt at paint, so I stripped it and repainted. My big screw up for this one is that the windshield was not glued in flush, so there is a gap at the top and the A pillars. Not worth ripping it apart for right now.

I started working on this Fiero kit after the group build. I was going to do a simple out of the box build, but I had this 1/24 scale small block V8 left over from the Camaro..

I ended up making things fit well enough - I had to relocate the oil filter and starter, and somehow got the exhaust to fit. I raised the "bulge" on the rear trunk/engine cover to make the air cleaner fit. I used a 3d printed carb and air cleaner but everything else is from the original Camaro engine.

The chassis, engine, and interior are done, so it's on to the paint now.
