Depressed Politician Finds Purpose in Song, or: Everybody come to the Arlingtones show in Ballston or Virginia will sink into the sea.

Hey, y'all. Adam here. Your favorite depressed former congressional candidate. I asked here on Reddit a couple weeks ago for fun things to do around Arlington. Working my way down that list.

First thing up: I attended a practice of NoVA's premier coed singing group The Arlingtones. They're just absolute gems and I had fun. Crawling out of post-election blues has been a process, and this was a real nice way to spend an evening. I'll be going to their big Fall 2026 show next weekend on the 10th. DM me if you're going and I'll hook you up with a promo code they gave me. Not paid promotion; I don't make any money off any of this, I promise. Just trying to help some cool folks who were nice to me.

Even if you can't make the show, show up to a practice. Tuesdays, 6:45pm* at Lubber Run Community Center. Don't need to be a member, don't need to know how to sing. Absolutely no talent necessary, can personally attest. Look at my lil smile there at the end. It was genuine.

Going to keep working down the list of Arlington activities in that other thread. Throw ideas at me if you have them. Schedule as of now:

  • October 3: Historical Boundary Stone jaunt with anyone who wants to come (DM for details)
  • October 4: Sunday Powhatan Skatepark informal ex-punk rocker skateboard jam (c. 9am)
  • October 4: Galaxy Hut live music (c. 8pm)
  • October 9: Murder mystery dinner theater experience with The Gaslight
  • October 10: Arlingtones Fall Show
