New Arlington person looking for Studio!

Hello everybody! I just moved to the area for work and I wanted to find a studio in the area that has rent and utilities totaling 2k.

I’ve seen a few spots with great and horrible reviews so I figured I’d ask the people who live in the area what you’d recommend!

Arlington House Cleaner

I think we are being quoted too high for cleaning our house in Arlington. Without cleaning the finished basement it’s about 2400 square feet and with the basement it’s just over 3000. we were quoted over $350 per month for cleaning. Does anyone have any recs for some more reasonably priced but reliable recommendation? TIA!

Housing recommendations

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are planning to move to Arlington sometime between November and January, ideally before Christmas, and we’re hoping to get some advice from people who actually live in the area.

We’re both 23,he works in corporate and I work in healthcare, and we’re really looking forward to living somewhere with a lot of people our age. Right now we’re mainly looking at Ballston, and Clarendon/Courthouse.

We’re looking for a 1 bed/1 bath within about a 15-minute walk of a Metro. One thing we’re having a hard time figuring out is the actual monthly cost of different apartments since additionally monthly cost vary from building to building. Our absolute max is around $2,800/month total, including rent, utilities, parking, water/sewer, trash, and any mandatory fees. Ideally, we’d like to keep base rent around $2,300 or less so we have about $500 to cover everything else. If there’s a place where the additional monthly costs are lower, we’d absolutely be willing to go higher on base rent.

We’re also open to using a cheaper local parking garage instead of paying for apartment parking, as long as it’s relatively safe. I’ll have to leave for work pretty early and be coming home after dark, so safety is definitely important to us. We’re hoping to find somewhere walkable, safe, and with a good mix of people in their early/mid-20s and young professionals. We’d also really like to avoid places that have a reputation for major pest or mold issues.

If you live or have lived in a complex, condo, or townhome that you’d recommend with the above, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. If you recommend a specific place, it would be especially helpful if you could mention roughly an estimate of how much you paid on top of the advertised rent for things like parking, utilities, and mandatory fees. Even a general idea of what your total monthly cost ended up being would be super helpful.

We’re also wondering how realistic it is to expect rents to drop 10–15% during November–January. I’ve heard winter is generally a better time to rent in the area, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually rented during those months.

Thanks in advance! Any recommendations, warnings, or general advice would be really appreciated.

Army Navy Country Club?

I retired from the military about a year ago and was thinking about joining the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington / Fairfax. I’m eligible for a reduced initiation fee for only a little while longer. It’s still really expensive but I think it might be worth it for the pools, tennis courts, and restaurants.

Honest reviews would be appreciated. Thank you.

No More Parking Near Long Bridge Park?

Is it just me, or does it seem like one day parking was allowed on Crystal Drive near the Long Bridge Park, and then all of the sudden, there were freshly painted bus lanes and no more parking available? Today I saw a city official giving parking tickets to a string of cars still parked on the road. It seems like there was no notice at all. Where are people visiting the park supposed to leave their vehicles? You can’t tell residents to utilize the green space, but take away the ability to park when they get there. I feel bad for all the people who will come out to orange parking tickets on their windshields.

Ballston condo room event, setup question

Hosting a shower for around 35 people in our building's clubroom near Ballston next month. Management only gave us 3 hours total including setup, and no open flame sternos allowed.

Trying to figure out if drop-off food is realistic with that time crunch or if we just do room-temp sandwich platters ourselves.

EDIT: I'm looking into Spilled Milk Catering since they do drop-offs nearby, but haven't booked anything yet. Anyone used them for small condo room setups, or have better local options to check before I put down a deposit?

NYC family moving to Arlington. Is Ballston the right choice? 🏡

Hi everyone! My family and I are moving from NYC to Arlington this September. We’re looking for a good mix of urban and suburban life, especially since our child is starting kindergarten.

We are considering Ballston because of the Metro and easy access to DC. Would you say it’s one of the best areas for a family?
Also, does anyone have experience with Ashlawn Elementary School? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Possibly taking new job in Ballston as mid-30s couple from Bethesda also starting a family soon. Pros/cons to the move?

We're currently living in a 2BR apartment in downtown Bethesda in a nice apartment rent 4k+. I'm interviewing for a job in Ballston that I may take with a large salary increase. I'm looking at neighborhoods, schools, and general vibe and both seem pretty comparable in price and vibe (urban walkable center with metro surrounded by more dense suburbs, great schools). Anybody make this move and can weigh in on any surprises or tips? Think I can commute from Bethesda to Ballston daily over the Chain Bridge?

I found affordable preschool in Falls Church with small class sizes if anybody it need!

Hi everyone! I found a preschool in Falls Church and wanted to share in case it helps a family looking for care. They are trying to keep tuition reasonable while offering smaller group sizes, an open-door approach with families, and a very transparent environment. Parents are always welcome to ask questions, visit, and see how the classrooms operate.

If anyone is currently comparing preschool options for ages 2½–5, I’m happy to share more information or answer questions. No pressure at all — just putting it out there for families who may be looking. 😊

Bikes, scooter, and mopeds on the side walk.

Since when it became normal to see bikes, scooters and mopeds sharing side walk with pedestrians.
It really bothers me and makes me feeling unsafe watching over my shoulders all the time.
I see kids, pregnant women and elderly walking in side walks shared by them and it really baffles me!!!!!
Did we just lowered our standards and accepted this is the new normal?
I see people not reacting to it!!!!!

Low Flyover

Is there an event today that I hadn't heard about? A C-17 just flew over south Arlington, heading southbound. Shook the house and sent the beasts scurrying under the bed.
