Most Quran apps separate reading from recitation from interpretation. You switch tabs to hear audio, different screens for tafsir, and manually match verse numbers. The experience is fragmented.
I built something different, a multi-layer Musaf architecture where the Arabic text, word-level audio, and word-level tafsir stay synchronized on the same page.
Here's what powers it:
→ open-quran-view (npm package) handles rendering Quran pages with word-level click detection
→ Quran Foundation API with segments=true returns per-word timestamps — enabling real-time word highlighting during recitation
→ A word-to-tafseer mapping that required building alignment logic because the verse and tafsir APIs use different indexing schemes
The result: when the audio plays, the current word lights up. Tap any word and its tafsir appears. No tab switching. Full context preserved.
