Prospective Social Work Student

Hello!

I'm planning on completing the STAT test and applying for the Bachelor of Social Work at either ACU or Western Sydney University.

I'm curious about how placements work. I know the universities typically place you but can you suggest fields you would like to work in such as a school or at a hospital?

For me, the fields I'm most interested in are School Social Work and Pediatric Medical Social Work.

My brother's dog

I 26F unfortunately live at home due to the cost of living in Sydney being too damn expensive and my having trouble finding a job so I cannot move out

Now onto my rant. About a year ago my brother's soon to be ex wife left him. They had two very annoying dogs One male labradoodle and a female morbidly obese and extremely anxious Fox Terrier x Jack Russell Terrier.

My brother moved out to live with his friend who doesn't allow pets. His ex-wife took the labradoodle she didn't want the female because of how ridiculously anxious and aggressive towards strangers and animals. So guess who's been forced to have the dog my family.

She's insanely anxious whines and whimpers whenever she can't see my mum or my sister. She jumps on everyone licks everyone tries to eat my cats shit. I get in trouble when my cats swipe at her because she won't leave them alone. She almost attacked a delivery person. My brother makes jokes about it because he is a racist asshole.

He refuses to move out of his friends house because its cheap rent and won't look after his own fucking dog. And my mum glad his abusive left him won't say no to him for anything. She agreed to take in the dog without asking everyone because "poor Michael is getting a divorce."

She gets mad at everyone from complaining but my sister and I literally cannot get anything done with the dog in the house. I've outright said I hate the dog and my mum threatens to make me get rid of my cats. She loves to use the fact that she let me come back with the cats after a living situation fell through. But the difference is I'M ACTUALLY LOOKING AFTER MY CATS AND LIVING WITH THEM MICHAEL IS NOT

Question for Primary School Teachers

How in depth are you able to go into your content in the primary school context? Particularly in the younger age range like year 2? I understand that Kindergarten and Year 1 are typically life skills with a little bit of academics where with the older years you have more content versus life skills. While I prefer the K-6 group, im concerned that I may be more aligned content depth wise with 7-12. I have nothing against high school teachers, I just have no idea if I could handle a class of teenagers 😅

Fat cats

I did not know how else to flair this so take it as giving advice.

Can people PLEASE stop glorifying fat cats? It's incredibly unhealthy and flat out abusive to let your cat get fat or keeping them fat. I hate seeing these poor innocent creatures suffer because "fat cats are so cute 😍" its infuriating. Yes some cat breeds are naturally big but that isn't the same as being fat.

I feel the same way about flat face cats and munchkin cats. Unhealthiness is NOT cute. Please stop, get help.

Question for Special Education Teachers

What are the biggest differences between primary school special education and secondary school special education? What if anything changes as the child transitions through the education system?

What are 5 things you wish you knew before becoming a teacher?

I finish my CIV in December and am looking to start a degree in Primary School Education, but am curious to hear about this from not just the primary perspective but from the ECT's and secondary school teacher's 😊

Weird side effect

Did anyone else just go manic on Lexapro after the first week? The first time I took Lexapro I experienced mania for the very first time and I definitely do not have Bipolar Disorder so it was really odd.
